Mono Black Control - Amonkhet standard

Standard Control Mono-Black

Adwam

Sideboard

Hello!

This is my first attempt at building a mono black energy control-ish deck for Aether revolt standard. The goal of my deck is to survive the early- and midgame by keeping the board clear and proceed to take over the game with powerful late game creatures.

I'd love to get some feedback since I'm pretty new to the game! I'll write my reasoning behind my choices below. I might change some things up as more spoilers are released.

Yahenni's Expertise - This card just seemed like a solid inclusion to deal with aggressive decks. It also synergizes well with Liliana and succumb to temptation.

Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet - Just a solid card that works well with all of the removal spells.

Ob Nixilis Reignited - A versatile planeswalker that works really well in most matchups.

Liliana, the Last Hope - A very strong planeswalker that unfortunately is a bit too expensive.

Grasp of Darkness - Really strong removal against a lot of things in this format.

Transgress the Mind - A great card against control and midrange.

Liliana, Death's Majesty - Works really well with Noxious Gearhulk and it puts cards in the graveyard.

Succumb to Temptation - Card advantage

Mindwrack Demon - An overstated creature that throws cards in the graveyard.

Blighted Fen - A land that comes with removal.

Noxious Gearhulk - A creature that easily two for ones.

Ruinous Path - A way to deal with planeswalkers.

Fatal Push - Solid removal spell.

Gifted Aetherborn - A strong creature that can compete with aggressive decks.

Never - A versatile

-Uptade! I have now playtested the deck(on XMage) and it has been performing extremely well. I'd say this deck does really well against aggro, as to be expected. The aggressive decks I played against were Mardu vehicles, GW Humans, and Boros tokens for the most part. I've also played against some jeskai builds and done well against those. I've gone kinda even against GR Energy so it's difficult to tell how effective my deck is against it. The one deck I've struggled against is Temur Eatherworks, but now that Emrakul, the Promised End is banned It's been easier to deal with because Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger is not as devastating. So overall I'm really happy with the current deck and I will definitely build it once Aether Revolt is released. (I've also made some improvements on the sideboard)

Second update (05/16 - 17)With the release of Amonkhet I've decided to reconstruct the deck and take it in another direction, instead of the energy plan I'm going for graveyard synergies.

Winning conditions - The beauty with this deck is that it has several wincons. Mindwrack Demon , Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Liliana, the Last Hope Ob Nixilis Reignited and Noxious Gearhulk are all able to finish the game in a spectacular fashion! The longer the game goes, the better the chances of winning is!

Thanks for checking out my deck! Pointers would be really appreciated! :)
