I really like this deck. Everything about it is great- it's going in my favorites folder! +1 from me.
Mishra, Artificer Prodigy ?Maybe just one or two copies of him I guess, I'm not all that in to Modern. He also does get your metalcraft so much faster if you can get him out. Also, his stats are pretty good, a 4/4 for 4 doesn't sound bad to me.
Artifact lands are banned in modern. And none of the suggestions are needed for this deck, as it is as fast as can be.
Are you kidding? Vedalken Archmage costs a bit of mana but would speed this deck up considerably. Skeleton Shard would keep his artifacts from dying, especially when coupled with Voltaic Key . card:Golem's Heart would give him life every time an artifact came out. And Broodstar would be a powerful flyer for two mana.
Those cards would actually slow down the deck, and while they can work, they are not what this deck aims to do: modern affinity should have everything in the battlefield by turn 2 or 3 and hit as hard as it can as fast as it can. Very often win through Inkmoth Nexus and Cranial Plating , too.
These are my two cents, at least. :)
Bacheleren is correct. The other suggestions would slow the deck down considerably and push out the wins a turn or two, which is not an option when playing affinity. With my current list, turn 3 wins are possible, and I win on turn 4 consistently. Turn 5 is slow, and I'm usually going over the top or pushing for infect at that point because something has happened to slow the game down or make the damage to life approach improbable.
Your not playing affinity.... Thoughtcast is the only card with affinity in this deck. Its also not always about winning on turn 3. What happens if plan a fails? Infect is a great idea but..... you don't seem very confident in your contingency plan. Throwing those cards in there would not only give you, in my opinion, a stronger backup plan ((albeit slower)) but a more fun plan. Imagine having an archmage or two out, then start pumping out half your deck in one turn. But suit yourself.
It seems to me that with 4 Mox Opal , some would end up just sitting in your hand with one already on the battlefield.
Have you thought about dropping one or two in favor of another source of colored mana?
Most of the time you have multiple Mox's, you have an Arcbound Ravager on the field that can sac the current Mox and allow you to play the 2nd one.
Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas should be in here regardless. refilling your hand with his +1 is great. and -1 for a 5/5 creature aint too shabby. and his -4 is a game winner. trust me. you NEED to find room for at least 1-2.
+1 because I feel it is more appropriate to refer the deck as Robots as opposed to Affinity, as the only "Affinity" card even used anymore is Thoughtcast , and even then it's a maybe.
also, this is a great classic list for affinity AKA robots. I'm trying to get my friend into modern and I'm probably going to have him net-deck this.
I really love this deck, +1 i would suggest adding Darksteel Forge
For the record I have not read the entire thread, however I used to play this deck in modern and its my format of choice. I would start by - 1 Mountain -3 Gemstone Mine and +4 Glimmervoid . Rainbow lands are good, but rainbow lands that don't go boom after using them are better, and with Darksteel Citadel in play it really isn't going anywhere. After that the mainboard is pretty clean. For sideboard, unless you plan on seeing Bogle a lot I'd drop the Ray of Revelation for Blood Moon . Screws with UWR, Jund, and Tron pretty hard if it sticks and sits. +1 from me.
Good speed build, but you may want to really consider Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas in case you can't win early. He provides sustain and can win on his own. This is what I used to run when I played modern a little while back : Grixis Engineering
