MONO BLACK INFECT CONTROL
Introduction:
So... why does infect in modern has to be a rush deck with no interaction? Lets change that! This is an attempt at a modern mono black control deck using infect as its win condition. It is more or less a budget deck so it may not use the best available cards.
You may be wondering now why use infect instead of the standard mono black control. Well black has some of the best infect creatures and they fit the finisher rol for a control deck perfectly (very resilient creatures that can finish the game fast), going for infect also negates any life gain effect and it's pretty awsome to infect people to death.
How to play:
Your main goal is to prevent them from achieving their main goal. Control the game disrupting your opponent's hand and destroying his creatures, then end the game with Inkmoth Nexus + Phyrexian Crusader + Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon
Main deck:
Hand disruption:
Inquisition of Kozilek - It gets almost every important card in modern.
Duress - Another efficient discard card that gets many important cards like planeswalkers.
Removal:
Disfigure - For early threats like Goblin Guide or Noble Hierarch.
Victim of Night - It just kills everything :D.
Smother - Kills almost every relevant creature in modern like Tarmogoyf, Scavenging Ooze...
Mutilate - Efficient sweeper to clear the board if things get out of control.
Card draw:
Phyrexian Arena - Continuous card advantage its great for long matches, a little bit of pain but we don't have fetches or shocklands so it's fine.
Night's Whisper - Cheaper and faster card draw.
Creatures:
Inkmoth Nexus - Very good creature, resists sweepers.
Phyrexian Crusader - Probably the most important creature, the protections are very relevant dodging a lot of removal. It blocks and attacks very well.
Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon - The ultime finisher! Great versatility: wait for regeneration mana if you are worried of removal, cast it on turn 5 if not or even play it with haste if you have the mana!
Lashwrithe - Solid creature to block on its own, equipping an infect creature can finish the game very fast.
Sideboard:
Devour Flesh - VS hexproof
Disfigure - VS affinity, burn...
Drown in Sorrow - VS affinity and other aggro decks
Duress - VS control, burn, combos
Phyrexian Arena - VS control
Raven's Crime - VS control, combo
Relic of Progenitus - VS graveyard, Tarmogoyf, Living End ...
Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon - VS removal
Torpor Orb - VS twin or melira combos
Improvements:
The deck can be improved with some very expensive cards, i would probably go with:
4x Thoughtseize instead of Duress
2x Liliana of the Veil instead of ???
1-2x Batterskull instead of Lashwrithe
3x Spellskite instead of Torpor Orb
So in the end it would be something like this:
