Maybeboard

Other (1)

Hello, thanks for viewing my deck! As soon as I saw Mizzix of the Izmagnus spoiled, I knew that it would be an awesome commander to fit a X cost spellslinger deck. Who doesn't want a legendary Goblin Electromancer that is probably friends with Snoop Dog as their commander?

It seems that MTG artists think that goblins are too precious to walk on their own feet. I agree!

Lets get started!

Play this deck if...

1) You like to cast instants and sorceries.

2) You like to control the board.

3) You are tired of creature heavy decks, and want to try something creature light.

4) You're an izzet mage at heart like me. :)

Don't play this deck if...

1) You would rather turn creatures sideways. I like Craterhoof Behemoth too, but his feelings wont be hurt if you play with instants and sorceries every once in a while.

2) You don't like taking away your friends' nice things with lots of board wipes and counterspells.

3) You don't like taking long turns.

Why use Mizzix of the Izmagnus as your commander?

Well, Mizzix has been described as the Animar, Soul of Elements of instants and sorceries, so thats pretty good, right? I think that Mizzix is worth running based solely on how much value you get out of spells. Casting a Scour from Existence or All Is Dust for free is pretty juicy.

"But...Melek, Izzet Paragon is better." Whoah, hold your horses. Mizzix has just been spoiled so we need more tests to confirm that. Addendum, Mizzix is way better.

Core Elements of the Deck

Draw

Blue Sun's Zenith, Pull from Tomorrow, and Stroke of Genius are the best draw spells in this deck. Mizzix experience counters really push the power of these cards.

Ramp

The first iteration of this deck had very little ramp. I made it that way on purpose to see if Mizzix can carry you. Turns out, you won't be carried by Mizzix alone. You'll need plenty of ramp to keep the deck flowing nicely.

This deck has a lot of artifact ramp so that you have something to spend your mana on during turns 1-3 while you wait for mana for Mizzix.

Seething Song, Reality Spasm, Desperate Ritual, and Turnabout serve as ramp for this deck too.

Control Spells

This deck runs a lot of board wipes due to its lack of creatures.

Evacuation, Cyclonic Rift, and Blasphemous Act will help you stay alive while you progress through the game.

This deck also features a high level of counterspells so that you can disrupt combos and stop nasty things like an entwined Tooth and Nail from resolving.

BURN

Lightning Bolt: Firemind's Foresight grabbing Reiterate, Desperate Ritual, and Lightning Bolt will end the game with infinite red mana and damage.

How to win!

Make infinite mana with Reiterate and any of these: Desperate Ritual, Turnabout, Reality Spasm and Seething Song. You typically need Mizzix out and 4 experience counters to do this. Use that infinite mana to mill the table with Stroke of Genius or Blue Sun's Zenith. You can also use that infinite mana and Reiterate to win with Lightning Bolt. Alternatively, you can bounce all your opponents' permanents back to their hand with Capsize as much as you want.

Another nasty combo is to dump Enter the Infinite into your graveyard with Frantic Search or Pull from Tomorrow, cast Mizzix's Mastery targeting Enter the Infinite, and then playing Laboratory Maniac and winning.

Some things you should know

I'm not trying to make this a storm deck (it's basically a storm deck minus the storm mechanic). Also, I'm never putting extra turn cards in here. I want this to be a fair deck that I play with my friends to have fun! Edit: Oops, it turns out that it isn't fun for my playgroup. Check out Ohm my God, can you turn the voltage down? for a more casual deck. Anyways, that ends the deck description. If there is anything that you want to ask about, comment below.

If you like the deck, give it a +1!
