MIZZIX OF THE IZMAGNUS

The alchemists and artificers of Ravnica's Izzet League are aided by dozens of attendants, who endure dangerous conditions while their masters remain at a safe distance. Mizzix began as one such attendant, but demonstrated a keen intellect that earned a place at her own magical forge.

About this deck

This is my deck around the ambitious goblin wizard Mizzix and the glory of her destructive arcane powers.

A matter of timing

You don't want to cast Mizzix while you have to tap out for it. Counters are desperately needed to keep her alive.

So what can we do in the rounds before?

Goblin Electromancer and Baral, Chief of Compliancehelp by reducing spell costs.

Ramp any mana that you can with Fire Diamond, Sky Diamond, Sol Ring, Izzet Signet

Desperate Ritual, Seething Song and Inner Fire are best saved for the combos, but also an option to help you getting out Mizzix earlier while still leaving mana open for a counter.

Brainstorm, Ponder and Preordain can help you improving your hand.

Use burn or artifact destruction spells to delay your opponents.

Counter nasty threats.

Finally, Thrumming Bird may already be cast if there is no better option.

Getting the first Experience Counter with Mizzix

The CMC0 and CMC1 Spells are perfect for getting the first Experience Counter on Mizzix. This should happen in the same turn as she is cast because she is known to draw quite some aggression:)

Useful are: Gitaxian Probe, Brainstorm, Ponder, Preordain, Mystical Tutor, Lightning Bolt, Vandalblast, Whispers of the Muse

Possible, but without further effect (X=0) are also: Banefire, Bonfire of the Damned, Demonfire, Fireball, Illuminate, Red Sun's Zenith, Rolling Earthquake

Increasing your Experience Counters

Steady Progress, Thrummingbird, Tezzeret's Gambit can increase an initial Experience Counter while Mizzix can hide in the Command Zone.

If there is no threat of removal the Experience Counters can of course be created by making devastating use of all the Instants and Sorceries at Mizzix's disposal. The ones with {X} as Mana Cost are especially useful for making sure you get another Experience Counter.

Wreaking Havoc

This is what we have all been waiting for and why this deck is so much fun! Mizzix's casting power can explode in no time. Burn what you can and draw a huge number of cards to keep the spells coming. The only drawback: The fun is over the moment Mizzix is removed. So better always keep a counter in your sleeve and make sure you make her appearance count!

Combos:

In a game with too many removals against you and no allied blue mages being able to protect Mizzix, combos may be your only way to win the game.

Combos using Mizzix:

Desperate Ritual + Lightning Bolt + Reiterate = Infinite Mana/Damage as long as you have Cost reduction or more. Three cards are complicated, but all are tutorable at once with Firemind's Foresight

Enter the Infinite + Inner Fire , e.g. with Cost reduction and 9 Mana.

Reiterate + Seething Song

Reality Spasm + Reiterate

Working without Mizzix

Reiterate + Turnabout = Infinite Mana, as long as you have 10 mana-producing lands

Enter the Infinite + Inner Fire = Infinite Mana, however with 16 Mana it is not really affordable without Mizzix :)
