I've got plenty of coupons!

Mizzix bascially comes with build in cheats for keywords like buyback, kicker, overload and the like. On top, she will work like regular accelleration/ramp on any spell you have the colors to cast - the more experience counters the better. This deck abuses alternate and additional costs to its fullest.

This makes her very relevant to have on the table asap, and very relevant to protect (e.g., with Darksteel Plate and Lightning Greaves.

To keep getting experience counters, it is important that we have a good curve of spells, with a slight scew towards the cheaper end. This will assure that we will be able to build up experience counters reliably. On the other hand we don't want to miss out on the more expensive spells, that Mizzet can make very affordable (e.g., Clone Legion + Insurrection ).

To get additional experience counters, the profilerate mechanic should be used. For this deck I am using Fuel for the Cause, Steady Progress, and Tezzeret's Gambit.

Casting good spells for cheap implies that it would be a good idea to copy them - as we all know, casting a Banefire for =40 is good, but casting two is much better (why not three, yes I'm looking at you Increasing Vengeance). Hence we should rune some copy spells e.g., Dualcaster Mage, Increasing Vengeance, Meletis Charlatan, Pyromancer's Goggles, Reiterate, and Twincast.

With all the goodies we can potetially cast, there are some good creatures that may be viable, but we have to be carefull to obtain the right balance between creatures, sorceries and instants. For this deck I have chosen to use Guttersnipe (combo win), Talrand, Sky Summoner (buy some time) and Snapcaster Mage for obvious reasons.

Stuff that is good with Mizzix and experince counters

Infinite mana combos (with enough experience counters)

Why whould I run infinite combos? Well... I'm a bad person and I do want to one-shot the entire table with a Comet Storm or a copyed Banefire.

Fun-facts about Miss Mizzix

  • is zero in all zones but the stack, where the value of is whatever you cast it as. This means that pretty much any spell you cast, will trigger an experience counter
  • Mizzix's second ability reduces the cost of alternate costs (e.g., overload, kicker, and buyback). Reduction is based on the total cost, calculated like this
    1. mana cost or alternative cost (e.g., flashback) including X
    2. add all additional costs (e.g., multikicker, buyback)
    3. add cost increasers (e.g., Thalia, Guardian of Thraben)
    4. subtract cost reductions (e.g., Mizzix, Arcane Melee)
  • You choose what is (e.g., when casting Spell Burst). This means that you can counter any spell you have the mana/experience for - you don't have a minimum of your experience.
