Modern Aggro GW (Selesnya) Humans

A white human deck with a green splash, the goal is to buff your cheap humans with Rancor and Ethereal Armor early on. Suggestions are always welcome.

card:Descendants' Path and Gather the Townsfolk would fit nicely into this deck

Vkec says... #2

What would i take out to put those in?

October 29, 2012 9:37 a.m.

LordRemiem says... #3

Yes, card:Descendants' Path especially is very useful. You have still 5 empty places on sideboard, but if you want I suggesto to remove the Rest in Peace enchantments.

PS: the card:Cathars' Crusade is VERY strong, too.

Vkec says... #4

Ok put in 2 descendants' path and a crusade and took out Mentor of the Meek because when i got those in my hand they just seem to be out of place and less useful.

Gather the Townsfolk - it pumps your champs, gives you chumps, and makes a draw with Mentor of the Meek

Why no Fencing Ace ?! It's a good card equip with Rancor and an Ethereal Armor . Swing for 10.

October 29, 2012 3:04 p.m.

LordRemiem says... #8

I forgot! Fencing Ace is a very good human, especially when empowered...

October 29, 2012 4:14 p.m.

Vkec says... #9

I feel like Ethereal Armor makes a lot of sense because I have 17 enchantments. I had Fencing Ace in at one point maybe I should put him in, but what to take out for him is a good question.

Mmm... maybe Thalia, Guardian of Thraben . Or, you have 3 empty places on side.

October 29, 2012 5:19 p.m.

Vkec says... #11

Yeah it would seem Thalia would be better to be in the sideboard for match ups vs control/burn

If the Mentor of the Meek thing does not work out for you, a good card would be Mayor of Avabruck  Flip . Unfortunately, you cannot play those two cards together because +1/+1 ability may prevent you from activating the Mentor's card drawing ability. I have always wanted to make a deck with the Mentor in it, but was not sure how I could get it to work. This definitely could be an option. Have you had a chance to take it to FNM yet?

As for your sideboard, one card you may want to consider is card:Angel of Glory's Rise. It will help you against an opponent that uses board wiping spells or if you ever play a zombies deck. A nice combo I have always heard of was playing Fiend Hunter on card:Angel of Glory's Rise, and if they decided to clear the entire board everything just comes right back.

Mentor of the Meek says when the card enters the battlefield and Mayor of Avabruck  Flip give 1/1 to creatures on the field, so they work together.

PTsmitty says... #14

I actually checked on that, and the +1/+1 takes effect as the creature enters the battlefield. For example, if both cards were in play Precinct Captain would enter the game as a 3/3 instead of a 2/2 so you could not activate Mentor's ability. I was totally bummed when I learned of that.

Vkec says... #15

I have yet had a chance to take it to FNM because I don't even have half the cards for it, however for the next few weeks I will try to get them and test it out. Though it has been working well on cockatrice so far. Mayor looks good but once he flips he just becomes a 3/3 and is otherwise worthless other than maybe buffing my champion of Lambholt. I try it a bit and see if he comes in handy or not.

Working a human deck myself and that Fiend Hunter on card:Angel of Glory's Rise is super smart. I'm going W/U so I'm using Supreme Verdicts and it'd be a great way for me to wipe the board and then get all my humans back. Not only that, but it's repeatable. I wipe board Fiend Hunter and several others go to graveyard. card:Angel of Glory's Rise comes back from exile and her EBT effect goes on stack bringing all my humans back. Fiend Hunter enters and EBT effect goes off letting me exile the Angel again for future combo. I really like it.

Idea for your deck though, since you're running so many enchantments: Sphere of Safety

Vkec says... #17

See the thing is with Sphere of Safety is that its not really aggro focused, it only stalls them. I have a friend that made an enchantment deck and thats pretty much all it does

October 29, 2012 9:35 p.m.

JasonMB says... #18

I wasn't thinking of building around it, but you throw one or two in and it's going to slow your opponent down. He's either going to not send some attackers at you or he'll spend his mana that he could be using on other things. If nothing else a great sideboard against weenie aggro decks. If your opponent is getting 8 spirit tokens out with Intagible Virtues and Sorin emblems...he won't be able to send them all against you if he has to pay 3-4 mana for each attacker.

October 29, 2012 11:18 p.m.

Vkec says... #19

Yeah it would work quite well in the side board.

October 30, 2012 2 a.m.

may i suggest a few Selesnya Sanctuary ?

Vkec says... #21

Would be great but that's not standard

November 23, 2012 9:45 p.m.

Oops. I forgot :/ My friends and I only play casual games so I never really pay much attention to standard stuff. Sorry for wasting your time

Hey, I've been running Travel Preparations in a similar deck, its been helping out a lot to make your double strike even more fierce. Also Mayor of Avabruck  Flip and Borderland Ranger don't hurt! :)

GreeDisGooD says... #24

If Travel Preparations is too Sorcery for you, there is always Common Bond , but that's not really a playable.

Champion of lambholt is a little too green heavy for this deck, its not likely that you will get two forests out early since that would prevent you from playing your other humans

December 2, 2012 2:19 p.m.

Vkec says... #26

Maybe its better just going green splash for rancor and nothing else? Not sure on how many forests I want.

Elite inquisitor ? And drop the gather the townsfolk .. It's good but not good enough for this deck in my opinion . Also increasing devotion 0_0 maybe just maybe angel of jubilation or odric, master tactician , herald of war, captain of the watch ... Sigarda host of herons since you splashed green in .. Ethereal armor and rancor on sigarda is hilarious . Just a couple of thoughts +1 from me .

December 3, 2012 1:28 a.m.

Vkec says... #28

Ordic was in at one point but I think archangel is a better 4 drop. Sigarda would be very interesting. I may test her out.
