Enchantment (2)

Artifact (1)

Creature (3)

An affordable token deck that uses life gain tactics to win out in the end while controlling the battlefield.

The Card Breakdown

  • Advent of the Wurm: Seriously, every G/W token deck should have these in there. There is nothing wrong with this card. Of course, this is a BUDGET deck, and I just happened to have two from trading and such. So if you're looking to build this deck more budget-like, try Deadbridge Goliath or some other green fatty.

  • Call of the Conclave: This is a solid two drop that not only deters aggro, but is a solid card for really any time in the game (except maybe if they have a Ruric Thar, the Unbowed out...). It also gets buffed from the Intangible Virtue which is cool.

  • Intangible Virtue : Speaking of which, since this is a token deck this card is a no-brainer. Just buffs your creatures for two mana and it gives them vigilance. 2/2 vigilance fliers are ftw.

  • Lingering Souls: This card is so nice as to provide said fliers to your battlefield. Possible four 1/1 fliers for 5 mana is just amazing and it even works out that if someone made you discard it or something, you can still cast it for cheaper... Yeah, great card.

  • Midnight Haunting: This is not as good as Lingering Souls, but it is nice to have the ability to drop surprise blockers at instant speed on their turn.

  • Unflinching Courage : Okay, I admit it, it's a weird feeling to enchant a token with an aura, but once that 7/7 trample lifelink comes in for massive damage, it'll feel alright :)

  • Putrefy: This is one of the control cards. It's just incredible the way it hits both creatures and artifacts without the ability to regen them. And it fits the color scheme of the deck nicely. This card is solid.

  • Selesnya Charm: I rave about this card too much. Every G/W deck should run it (along with Advent of the Wurm) because of its incredible versatility. The exile part of the card is awesome because it gets big things like Obzedat, Ghost Council, Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, and even if someone is buffing their own creatures, you just outright remove the threat. And the 2/2 knight and the +2/+2 at instant speed is really good for early game or to secure a couple more points of damage. All at 2 mana. Great card.

  • Sever the Bloodline: This is (obviously) the other control card. Its ability to hit multiple creatures at the same time and the flashback makes it really useful for mid-late game removal. Its a bit pricey, but it does its job well enough (plus I like things with flashback as a "screw you" to discard)

  • Syndic of Tithes : This is the other life-gain source. Since most of the core cards of this deck are 3 mana spells, it's not hard to get the extort off. On top of the extort (which is good for just wearing your opponent down steadily and keeping your life total up constantly) its a 2/2 for two mana, so it's good vs aggro too. Not too shabby.

  • Tithe Drinker: Yet another life gain source. It can trade with aggro, it has extort and lifelink. This card is decent.

Anyway, that's my attempt at a solid standard token/lifegain deck for cheap. +1 if you like the ideas, and just for reference about the effectiveness of this deck, I took a similar version of this deck to FNM a couple weeks back (minus the life-gain and control, and it was alittle more aggro) and it won about half its games. I didn't place that high (like 5th or something), but I think this is a lot more solid because of the control and lifegain now. I'll update this when I take this variant to FNM.

Oh and just fyi about the pricing, if you take out Advent of the Wurm the price drops to 30 bucks which is pretty decent.
