Beast & The Harlot - Krav & Regna, EDH

Commander / EDH* Aggro Combo Infinite Combo Tokens W/B (Orzhov)

She's A Dwelling Place For Demons

The story of Job is a curious one; not because of any test of faith, but because of the very wager. One has to wonder, what was God doing entertaining an audience with the devil?

Welcome to what is officially my favorite partner pairing ever. When I first started playing Magic, the color pairing really stood out to me and until I began playing with my Elenda deck it had never dawned on me as to why. Now, I see it though. It's a loyalty to one's own kind and a cruelty to those who are not. It's a sacrifice one makes to become their best self.

With that, we make our own sacrifice. We achieve greatness at any cost.

  • Orzhov combat tricks. It's fun and something not often found in the color pairing.

  • Built-in draw. Krav is a massive source of draw power.

  • Big & Wide. This deck has the unique ability to go big or wide depending on the scenario with each being effective.

  • Adaptability. This deck has a few non-combat win conditions that focus on loops or destroying a player with a 50 life bomb.

  • Cost. Both monetarily and Commander wise, the deck isn't cheap. This is a fair reason to avoid playing it, but at least our Commander cost we attempt to offset.

  • Two Commanders. Keeping track of these can be difficult and sometimes, you forget that you have one entity sitting in the Command Zone because you're so focused on the other.

  • Tokens. Keeping track of tokens, especially in a deck that generates and removes so many of them at any given time can be a nightmare. It is certain to be a big part of the time spent during turns and if your math is off, it can cost you in card draw and combat damage.

Unique Lands

All of it is self-explanatory. Running a lot of fast mana rocks to get access to Krav quickly and Regna not long after. It is entirely possible to drop both on turn 2 in this deck.

  1. Land (), Sol Ring, Grim Monolith.

  2. Land (Any) -> Krav/Regna OR: Land (), Mana Crypt, Mana Vault -> Krav & Regna

Most of these are of course self explanatory, but the big one here is Sidisi, Undead Vizier. She's easily repeatable in the deck, you can cast her with relative ease for 5 mana, she has Deathtouch and doesn't need to kill anything relevant to tutor.

Unique Removal

Key Token Generation

  • Bitterblossom: Amazing generator; turn 1 or 2 drop. Losing life for it basically means nothing.

  • Luminarch Ascension: Great in a 4 person pod.

  • Teysa, Orzhov Scion: An amazing Commander in her own right; Generator + Removal.

  • Twilight Drover: Interesting card. Never tried it before, but I like it's use in this deck.

  • Elenda, the Dusk Rose: This deck's former Commander. She's amazing even in the 99.

  • Requiem Angel: Most of the tokens you'll generate won't be spirits, so prepare to trade tokens for tokens.

Death Effects

Most here are self-explanatory, but two stand out:

  • Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim: Yet another great Commander; she'll almost always be able to use her second activated ability in this deck.

  • Yahenni, Undying Partisan: Haste is so rare in . Really useful creature; great sac outlet and pumps when enemy creatures die.

Ideally, we want to either ramp quickly into Krav whilst leaving tokens along the way; then we cast Regna and benefit from the life-gain right after. Utilizing land ramp, mana ramp and simple synergies, we can build our board presence before most people have the time or resources to respond. We have to be quick and efficient.

The deck runs somewhat low on specific types of removal, so keep that in mind. Use what you need to, but don't overextend if you can avoid it. A lot of answers, as well as our utility is attached to creatures, as we are running a creature focused deck.

Your Commanders have a high casting cost, so try to be aware of alternate ways to bring them in, should they fall to removal. Teferi's Protection is your only real way out of a tragic, exile style wipe, so keep that in mind and try to keep it in reserve.

When I have them, they'll be put here.

Considering removing Geist-Honored Monk and putting Phyrexian Processor in, instead.

  • Phyrexian Arena: It's great draw, especially in a deck like this, but I find Mentor of the Meek to fulfill three requirements vs Arena's 1: Mentor is a draw source, it depends on tokens which we make a lot of and it is also a creature which is necessary for a creature-based deck.

  • Anointed Procession: It turns out with just the bodies I have available, I make more than enough tokens. This card winds up fitting into the "Win Harder" category, so I adjusted and got an on-body retriever.

  • Luminarch Ascension has been removed! In it's place, I've dropped in Resplendent Angel. I love this creature and its ability is very simple to trigger in this deck!

Thanks for checking out my new deck. If you enjoyed it, go ahead and upvote! There will always be improvements to be made, but those will come in time.

Dedicated to my own real life Regna as she keeps me in check. :'^)
