Mesmeric Mind Melt

Modern Control Mill U/B (Dimir)

Hello friends, today I have my very first deck I constructed for modern; Mill Control. There has been many edits made to this deck since it was constructed for legacy back in 2007. I used to love running 2x Circu, Dimir Lobotomist, but they have since been replaced with 2x Surgical Extraction just as one example.

The focus of the deck is to obviously mill my opponent. Mesmeric Orb is the true star in this deck, making any creature-heavy deck struggle hard with untapping mill. Psychic Strike provides much needed counterspell with a nice splash of mill. This deck is tailored to keep you alive all while milling your opponent into oblivion.

Really neat, I'm learning about modern and discovering Crypt Incursion was very exciting. I playtested your deck against one of mine a few times, and unboarded it completely decimated it. Archive Trap is actually insane, it was very difficult to play around with the mana base I had. Leyline of Sanctity is a pretty feelsbad card, obviously. Not sure if that is something you'd consider boarding for Void Snare seems like an efficient way to shut it off or Into the Roil for more flexibility. Another thought I had was running a couple Laboratory Maniacs to turn the mill plan on yourself :P probably more silly than effective.

Witchbane Orb and Leyline of Sanctity as well as any other cards that give a player hexproof are quite a thorn in this deck's side. Luckily, cards like Mesmeric Orb, Memory Erosion and even Psychic Strike are safe from cards like this since they don't target opponents. You do bring up a valid point as cards like these are quite bothersome. Into the Roil seems like a nice 2 of that could replace 2x Mind Funeral in the side deck. I will try this out!

Remand, Mana Leak or Spell Snare are better than Psychic Strike. You have enough mill power that you don't necessarily need a counterspell with more mill. Leak and Remand would work better with Mesmeric Orb, forcing them to really pay out the nose for that spell they want.

Also Field of Ruin costs 2 to activate, it is competitively better than Ghost Quarter, as it doesn't leave u a land short and forces your opponent to search.

Fog Bank is too easily removed and too narrow to stop aggro and go-wide decks. I would suggest a card that guarantees to buy a turn; Darkness or even Damnation if budget allows.

I appreciate all the suggestions. I have actually been play testing Mana Leak lately with some decent success. They may go in place of Psychic Strike, but I have yet to fully decide. I have tried Remand in this deck and I'm not a particular fan of it in this deck. I love running it in my Legacy Gifts Storm, but I feel like I need more solid counter.

Damnation is already in my sideboard, but Darkness seems like it might be quite nice for a stall. Not sure if I want to take out cloud banks for them, but they are great cards that I'll certainly find a spot for.

Sidenote: take out "/entering" of "breaking/entering". It's throwing off ur deck stats.
