Esper is my favourite colour pie in Magic. It offers by far the most utility for control players (in my humble opinion) which is why I have three Esper Commander decks. But this one was my first and has changed and evolved over time. I wanted to make Esper but I wanted something truly different and somewhat unique and scrolling through the Esper Commanders at the time Merieke was the one that really spoke to me. My playgroup at the time really hated infinite combos and me being the troll that I am was like you know what - Merieke is a decoy - I'm going to add every single infinite combo I can find in Esper colours. And so I did and that was the original build and after thoroughly rustling the jimmies of my friends I decided to massively cut back on the infinite combos (a couple still remain) and make Merieke what I originally intended - taking creatures, making them indestructible, and keeping them forever. This deck really works. It's taken time to find the right balance of control, midrange and being able to protect Merieke and use her ability as best as I can. I truly enjoy taking creatures my opponents control as there is nothing they can generally do about it and because Merieke destroys them they're either gone for good or I keep them forever.
