+1 because this is pretty much the exact deck I wish I could build in Standard.

I desperately want there to be a card like Tideshaper Mystic or card:Aquitect's Will in Standard. I tried to build a merefolk deck around Stormtide Leviathan but it's just so expensive to cast. Hopefully the Simic have something to offer in Gatecrash...

My deck Merfucked is a lot like this, but with out the control aspect. Of course, mine is casual and doesn't see tournament play, but it's amazingly fun. Wake Thrasher is a great card, especially with islandwalk. Merfolk Spy gives some nice knowledge of when use your Mana Leak , when to swing all out, etc.

having said that, have you considered Scroll Thief ? Could give you significant card advantage with islandwalk, and it's toughness makes it a better blocker than most of your other merfolk

looking good but I think you should make some room for some control.

card:Aquitect's Will and card:Sea's Claim should be replaced with Spreading Seas , Land disruption and a cantrip makes it the choice card. a set of 4 should be enough.

Cursecatcher is the 1 drop merfolk of choice in modern, a set of them and you have more disruption and 4 extra slots dropping Tideshaper Mystic and Merfolk Spy which aren't really doing that much for you.

Which kinds of brings me to Merfolk Sovereign , sure its another lord, but for 3 mana it's ability is useless. I'd recommend Phantasmal Image . It can copy any lord for 2 mana which makes keeping AEther Vial at 2 a no brainier.

Silvergill Adept is a great card seen it most merfolk decks. an extra card in your card could be another lord on the field

doing all this hopefully lets you include some game changing cards like Mana Leak , Remand , Spell Pierce , Vapor Snag or even Vedalken Shackles . Running AEther Vial means not only could you get more merfolk on the board faster but you could also get creatures out while keeping lands untapped for control.

Spreading Seas

I already have 8 ways to make my opponent have an island, one already draws me a card and is cheaper, why would I need a more expensive one?

Fun thought: Without the Mutavault , Cavern of Souls , and AEther Vial , this deck is dirt cheap and still consistent, albeit far less effective/badass.

I don't like Aquitect's Will cause it doesn't shut off a land. I would run removal like Dismember and mainboard Remand

I play a merfolk deck too and have the same thoughts as LeaPlath. But I've forgot about Boomerang and it's better than Vapor Snag , will think about it.
