Maybeboard

Just an ordinary Meren deck that I wanted to build. It is largely an amalgamation of a janky Prossh deck that I once built and the Commander's Quarters' $50 Meren deck. The strategy is simple. Use sacrifice outlets to kill creatures and get experience counters, reanimate creatures using Meren and other cards, and abuse enter-the-battlefield and leave-the-battlefield triggers for doing so. Use hatred, death, and rebirth to destroy the world.

Key Pieces

So let's so you just want to make someone cry. How about infinite mana? It's fun, but you could also try infinite tokens. Or how about infinite lifegain and damage. There are two infinite combo groups here, and they are as follows:

Gravecrawler + Phyrexian Altar + any zombie: If you sacrifice Gravecrawler to the altar for a black mana, provided you have another zombie out, you can spend that mana to recast Gravecrawler and repeat the cycle infinitely. In a pinch, Ashnod's Altar + Prismite can substitute the Phyrexian Altar. While the combo isn't much on its own, with any other engine, it becomes game ending. A Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat just kills your opponents. With Meren of Clan Nel Toth, you get infinite experience counters. Grave Pact means that your opponents won't have any creatures left. Gutter Grime will give you an infinite amount of tokens with infinitely increasing power and toughness and Golgari Germination grants infinite 1/1's, which can then be sacrificed for mana. Harvester of Souls means you can draw your library. The options are plentiful. The options for another zombie are Blood Scrivener, tokens created by Grave Titan and Liliana, Heretical Healer  , Lotleth Troll, and anything reanimated by Nim Deathmantle and Rise from the Grave.

Ashnod's Altar + Nim Deathmantle : This one is a little tricky because you need to have a card that will generate a token upon entering the battlefield or dying. Examples are Golgari Germination, Gutter Grime, Grave Titan, or Wurmcoil Engine (which isn't in the deck, but maybe it should be). You sacrifice a creature and the token to Ashnod's Altar to generate the 4 mana needed to activate the Deathmantle and get your creature back. Tara! You now have infinite ETB's and deaths (see previous combos for results).

Ashnod's Altar: Yay! Mana!

Phyrexian Altar: Yay! Spicy mana!

Phyrexian Plaguelord: Kill stuff

Viscera Seer: With enough creatures, it becomes a budget Vampiric Tutor

Abhorrent Overlord -The Overlord is powerful because is provides flying token upon entry, and has a sac engine attached. If necessary, you can even sacrifice the Overlord to shut down the engine.

Bone Shredder -Simple removal on a stick that sacrifices itself already (unless you want to pay the mana) so you can bring it back with ease.

Death Pit Offering -While it works best when played early, sacrificing all of your creatures isn't an issue. It buffs all of your creatures for a low cost.

Strionic Resonator -Probably the most flexible card in the deck. Everything, including the commander, centers on triggered abilities. It can even boost your mana ramp with Nyxbloom Ancient or Priest of Gix.

The Carriers Phyrexian Defiler, Phyrexian Denouncer, and Phyrexian Plaguelord -Flexible creatures with an attached sac outlet. They can be used for removal or to soften the blow for other creatures. If you need to sacrifice them to prevent enemy effects or generate value for something else, they can get rid of themselves and hurt the enemy, or take out another one of your creatures if needed. The Plaguelord can also sac other creatures.

Phyrexian Obliterator: The name says it all, folks. It is a one-card-flying-f*ck-you to the opponents board state. Want to make a timmy cry? Want to feel yucky inside? Want to reanimate something with such ease that it becomes an unstoppable nightmare juggernaut that causes your opponents to rip up their removal cards? Then Phyrexian Obliterator is definitely your guy. His low mana cost makes him easy to use with Meren and unexpectedly, the big boost to devotion also comes in handy.

If you like the concept, also check out my other version of the deck Meren's Spite But Also Melira, a variation that adds a persist combo. I am curious to see which one people think is more competitive.
