Meren of Clan Nel Toth

Strategy

Early game:

• Build up experience counters with Meren of Clan Nel Toth . I prefer to do this with low cost creatures that generate sacrifice fodder. Apprentice Necromancer, Korozda Guildmage , Pack Rat , Phyrexian Dreadnought, and Shriekmaw are all great cards in early game.

• Mana ramp with Sakura-Tribe Elder and Burnished Hart.

• Fill up your graveyard. Life from the Loam, Altar of Dementia, and Buried Alive are all good. I am also using Thought Gorger , Fauna Shaman, and Jolrael, Empress of Beasts to discard cards.This works great with Meren on the field returning cards to your hand.

Mid Game:

• Bloodspore Thrinax is a key mid game card as it allows your early game strategy to hit harder and can win games if not answered. In addition, it combos with Hangarback Walker , Lifeblood Hydra, Puppeteer Clique, and Woodfall Primus.

• Keep your opponent's field small with Smokestack , Archfiend of Depravity, Bane of Progress, and Pernicious Deed. Grind your way to victory if you have to.

• Protect your field with Eldrazi Monument and Archetype of Endurance .

Late Game:

• There really isn't much you should need to do if your early game went well. Attack with lots of big creatures. That said, every deck should have a few good game ending combos, and this deck has a couple.

When One Creature isn't Enough...

Meren of Clan Nel Toth + Strionic Resonator is a great way to increase your commander's effectiveness. There are many 2 creature combos available.

Combos and Synergies

• Bloodspore Thrinax + Korozda Guildmage : Devour is much better with Korozda Guildmage .
• Korozda Guildmage + Meren of Clan Nel Toth + Phyrexian Dreadnought : 12 saprolings for 4 mana.
• Archfiend of Depravity + Shaman of Forgotten Ways : Opponents will only have a couple of creatures letting you take them out easily.
• Earthcraft + Pontiff of Blight : This allows you to actually use that huge number of extort triggers.
• Archfiend of Depravity + Jolrael, Empress of Beasts
• Eternal Witness + Liliana, Heretical Healer + Victimize : This combo revolves around using Victimize to return Liliana, Heretical Healer   and anything else to play, flipping and killing her with -X to return Eternal Witness to the battlefield, and using Eternal Witness to return Victimize to your hand. Total mana expenditure to use is 3 (for Victimize) and you can start the combo with either creature in the graveyard or in play.
