Your Meren deck probably doesn't have enough sac outlets. Using the The Hypergeometric Calculator, it looks as though I have a 60% of drawing a number of sac outlets in my opening 7, and I have close to a 75% chance by Turn 3. If you aren't sacrificing for value every turn, you're never going to break parity.

Here are some card choices that I don't see in too many other decks...

Brutalizer Exarch - I always get giddy when it shows up. Its a freaking tutor and removal on a stick. Stop what you are doing and put this in your deck right now.

Demonmail Hauberk - A great sac outlet. PROTIP: You can always sac a creature to equip this to a creature it is already equipped to. I'll usually throw this on Meren and give her a nice big 6 butt and just keep sacing dudes to re-equip her.

Dimir House Guard - Does everything I want to do with this deck. I'm usually using his Transmute ability to tutor up Birthing Pod, then using him as a super evasive attacker and sac outlet.

It That Betrays - Great curve topper although I am usually getting him out with Meren. Gaining control of the things you sac? Yes please. The dream is to have this, Grave Pact on the field, and Fleshbag Marauder on repeat with Meren every turn... feels... so... good.

Llanowar Druid - What is not to love about a mana dork that sacs himself?

Wickerbough Elder - Helps get rid of Torpor Orb, Rest in Peace, Wheel of Sun and Moon - but most importantly, its tutorable with Dimir House Guard, and I'm loaded with 3 drops, so I can usually hit it with Birthing Pod.
