I have been loving mill since forever. It's just such a wonderful, satisfaction in seeing all the opponent's fun cards go away. That being said it's never really been a deck of the highest tier, and maybe never it will.

But at long last we mill-lovers have got a new toy to spice things up with and maybe finally take the deck to the next level.

The card I am talking about is of course Scheming Symmetry and I cannot understate how good this card is for the deck. The most obvious reason is the "combo" with Archive Trap as it forces the opponent to search - they cannot choose not to. But even without the Trap in hand the opponent will be very scared of putting anything useful on top as there is a huge risk you will just mill it away one way or another..

That leaves us with a 1 mana tutor can get us anything thing in the deck which in turn allows us to play a variety of silver bullets in our mainboard. Anyhow let's dig into the concept of the deck for those not familiar with it.

The Millers Show

These are the bread and bone of the deck - without these cards there is no milling and no deck to speack of.

• Archive Trap : Probably the best mill spell that will ever be printed. The most common trigger is of course enemies fetching for lands, but there are quite a bunch of other tutor effects as well. and if they don't search their library we do it for them.

• Glimpse the Unthinkable : Super solid mill card to begin with, 10 cards is enough to activate Jace's Phantasm on T2 and it's often enough to make you see enough cards to know what you are up against.

• Mind Funeral : Has an average of 10 cards but it gets alot better over time.

• Hedron Crab : Solid staple in the deck, if left unchecked it escalates quickly. Our 8 fetches ( Polluted Delta and Prismatic Vista , Field of Ruin and the singleton Oboro, Palace in the Clouds allow us to abuse the crabs to the limit.

Forced Searching Show

These 2 cards forces the opponent to search their library triggering our traps.

• Scheming Symmetry : As stated above this new card is the best. It finds our silver bullets or just more mill card while also triggering Archive Trap .

• Field of Ruin : The Field is another card that forces a search to enable Archive Trap . It is also very good vs. Tron and similar decks whilst thinning out the deck and triggering Hedron Crab .

Silver Bullets Show

These cards we can have as a one-of as we can find them with Scheming Symmetry . These are specialized to tackle the various threats you could face.

• Ensnaring Bridge : To Stop creature-heavy beatdown decks.

• Crypt Incursion : When you need life (against creature-based decks)

• Damnation : When you simply need to clear the board.

• Ashiok, Dream Render : Additional mill with a grave hate ability. He might disenable your traps but you can still force them to search with Symmetry and fields as you control those effects.

• Liliana of the Veil : Sacrfice effect and just a very strong card in every way.

Support, & Utility Show

These are not directly mill cards but support our deck in many ways.

• Fatal Push : The best removal available for our colors. Our many fetches and Oboro helps us enable revolt fairly easy as well.

• Visions of Beyond : Super strong card in the deck, it often enabled when we are starting to run low on cards basically becoming an Ancestral Vision . It can also help us get the card we tutored for with Scheming Symmetry to our hand on the same turn which is very powerful.

• Mission Briefing : Mission briefing lets us replay one of cards which is very useful. Unlike Snapcaster Mage it also allows a free cast of Archive Trap making it slightly more appealing in this deck.

• Surgical Extraction : This card is real good, espcially in the modern environment we are in at the moment. Getting an early mill and sniping a crucial key card often let you steal more games than you deserve.

The Sideboard Show

As we have some "sideboard cards" already in our main board we have a couple of slots over to play with here.

• Jace's Phantasm : As we only have 4 harmless crab creatures game 1 the enemy might go light on removal making this little fella to become a quick clock.

• Thief of Sanity : Often comes in together with the Phantasm to threaten from the sky. They both can steal games if left unhandled for long. Thief can also mill through a Leyline of Sanctity which is be a very troublesome card for us.

• Unmoored Ego : Can call out key pieces to end the game in our favour. It can also name lands making it very strong versus Tron and Scapeshift.

• Dispel : Simple protection in control matchups to help our spells resolve.

• Negate : Similar to dispel this helps vs. control and other non-creature-based matchups.

• Yahenni's Expertise : Additional boardclear against aggro, -3/-3 is often enough (othervise there is always Damnation. The free cast let's us throw away a mill spell on the same turn to not lose so much tempo.

• Crypt Incursion : An additional Incursion to help us in aggro matchups were our health drops fast. It is also very strong vs. the many decks that aretrying to fill their graveyard with stuff.

• Leyline of the Void : Despite shutting down some of our other card's sometimes it's just better to simply mill their cards into oblivion. It can't be helped.

• Narset, Parter of Veils : Finally we have the new little Narset, she is just very good in many matchups preventing card draw while searching for more key cards.
