Game Day —Feb. 11, 2017

Went 2-1 on Game Day with this deck. Slow, but fun to play when it worked.

Amusing idea... I would look at the enchantments Ongoing Investigation and Ulvenwald Mysteries. I think Bant colors would help, as Thraben Inspector, Bygone Bishop, and Expose Evil are cheap ways to get more clues.

I agree with CloudThumper. You should make it bant. If you add white you can also put in Sigarda's Aid and flash in Mechanized Production at the opponent's end step to guarantee the win.

Dude, wheres your [Lumbering Falls] and your [Botanical Sanctum]s? Make sure to have the dual lads because they really help

Snivy__ says... #4

wow you should totally use Heroic Intervention for the hexproof.

I'm seeing no Tamiyo's Journal to help ensure you actually get your Mechanized Productions. Also Trail of Evidence would be a good idea given your high spell count.

If you're running mechanized production,

You'll want something to do with all those clues

If you like when you play your spells for nothin,

Inspiring Statuary is for you!

Thanks for the comments so far everyone!

thecakeisalie42, I was considering Inspiring Statuary, as it's in my Maybeboard, but am hesitant about adding it because it feels like it will slow me down initially, plus, I plan on having to use Clues to draw cards to get to the Mech Pro, so I don't anticipate having a bunch out just doing nothing. I will consider it thought, thanks!

Hey The5lacker, I think Tamiyo's Journal is just too slow/expensive, but I will consider it for my SB in case I'm playing against a slow deck.

Snivy__, yeah I will probably throw some dual lands in, but again, I don't want them slowing me down. I will probably just add 4 Sanctum's.

CloudThumper and Hamster2558, yes BANT colors would be cool. I was actually considering just blue and white at first. My issue with going BANT colors is that I don't want to loose the control cards from blue or any Clue cards from green if I add white. Seems like the deck would be too diluted/not focused enough. Not sure, maybe just for a different version of this deck. Thanks for the suggestion!

you should rename it, " Here's a Clue: I win!"

Hey, what about Lifecraft Awakening?

Graf Mole instead of Byway Courier, the lifegain can save your game! :)By the way, the deck looks good, it can be funny to play it!

You should use Metallic Rebuke as a counterspell since you can use your clues to make it cheaper, also I am using the statues in my clue deck to power out stuff and have Reverse Engineer as a card draw. And if you really want to go ham the statues could give you a "free" Ulamog cast

January 26, 2017 8:56 a.m.

Good suggestion Aleboth93! I made the swap of Byway Courier for Graf Mole.

Cool idea Ghosty, I hadn't even seen Lifecraft Awakening yet!

trixster87, or maybe rename it "Here's a Clue: F*CK YOU!" haha! ;)

I second Inspiring Sanctuary and Reverse Engineer. Once you get sanctuary out, all your spells get cheaper (mostly just costing colored mana) so you're able to clue faster and control better to stay alive. So much so that you can cast Mechanized Production while leaving counter mana up.

January 26, 2017 11:21 a.m.

@andylkell, thecakeisalie42, I agree that Inspiring Sanctuary would definitely be a good addition. @BubbleMatrix2357, don't forget, it also acts as fuel for all the cards that it gave Improvise to. It's also great because it essentially makes all your Clue Tokens mana rocks and they still can draw you cards.

@Hamster2558 I really, REALLY like the idea of using Sigarda's Aid to flash in the win-con on their End Step. You can even have 7 clues when you do it. The only problem is that Sigarda's Aid only helps THAT particular combo. It doesn't contribute anything else to the deck as it currently stands.

@sobektheblack The only reason I would advise against Metallic Rebuke is that it doesn't work well in late game. That and it only contributes in countering creatures. With his deck, I don't think creatures are going to necessarily be a problem with interrupting his win-con. They can't kill the clues that way. He'll be stopping more removal and counter spells, which Negate is perfect for. Plus, if he uses Inspiring Sanctuary, he can counter for only.

@JericoDarkstar Metallic does counter more than creatures and in some ways it is worse in the late game but it can also drain resources from your opponent so that they may not be able to drop their bombs. I'm using as more utility in the first match and can side board out to more specific counter

BubbleMatrix2357 just a heads up that lifecraft only hits artifacts as I definitely tried to use it on a creature during pre-release and found it a little less useful

January 26, 2017 noon

@sobektheblack Yeah, I love Metallic Rebuke a lot. It's very useful, and does a whole lot more work than most people expect.

I just think that in his particular deck, Negate does basically the same thing since creatures aren't as big of a threat. He should stopping non-creature spells more in general. Because Rebuke is most useful during early game, and his deck takes a while to get off the ground, it could hurt him more than help.

I see it the same way you do, just in reverse. I think Negate should be in MainBoard to stop removal of his wincon, and Rebuke in SB against decks that run heavy creatures.

I know cracking clue is the opposite of what you want, but sometimes, you might need to do it. I've found that Angelic Purge was pretty good in a clue deck. Especially if you get Graf Mole and or Tireless Tracker on the battlefield as it triggers the saccing of a clue. Of course, this is if you go bant.

Just splash white, if for nothing besides the Thraben Inspector. Too much value for one mana

ZaulEnTaro says... #20

I'm trying a similar deck but with white as well (Clues Win the Game). Thraben Inspector and Bygone Bishop are great for Clue generation. I'm also using Verdurous Gearhulk as my best-case Mechanized Production target for the extra +1/+1 counters.

January 27, 2017 2:19 p.m.

@ZaulEnTaro

Oh man, I didn't even think about using Verdurous Gearhulk with Mechanized Production.

O_O Das iz crazy!

I know you shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket, but I would love to keep giving the first Gearhulk +1/+1 counters and make it as tall as a building!

Nice Deck! I tested it against my Between anguished flames and metallic works and it'seems very powerful and it's an easy way to win! Great job!

Thanks Wino!

have you though about putting Baral's Expertise in here. it can be good to bounce not just your opponents cards but maybe your own if you need another ETB and you can cast your mechanized Production for free or whatever you happen to have in your hand. I have been playing around with this same win con in a combination of different colors. Blue is a must, but white is good for easy clue generation for cheap, green is great with using second harvest on the trigger of your 4th clue ETB from mechproduction to double to 8 prior to the check for win. I do agree that Bant does spread the deck thin but maybe just for the Thraben Inspector wouldn't be a bad idea. My buddies are suggesting going black/blue for a more aggressive approach.

January 27, 2017 9:52 p.m.

Thanks ShadowFX88! Interesting idea going black/blue, I guess slower Clue production, but more removal. Do they or you have a deck up?
