Mono-Black Control with Midrange Eldrazi beats..

Why Mono-Black Eldrazi? Show

I had originally bought into Eldrazi early on for Modern (and maybe one day even Legacy), where they will continue to have frightening power for years to come.. But for the time being they are still 'Standard legal'; so why not use them? However it is the fast mana available in the older format(s) that makes 'Eldrazi Aggro' so explosive, and helps shed some light on why I've been away from the Standard for a while... But after the EMN reprint of Murder was spoiled, I started really considering all of the strong Control options available to at this point, and 'Mono-Black Control' just seemed like the perfect "shell" to build around that powerful Eldrazi "core".. And I think with a little fine-tuning, this could easily be very competitive, if not downright oppressive in an apparently creature-heavy meta..

Think about it: Loaded to the gills with Killspells & Discard (-Control) to cripple the opponent's offensive, and before too long, out starts popping these big, scary, value monsters (each with it's own built-in 'Control' function) that they have to answer while top decking; or die...

Shiny Prerelease foils! Show

Yes, literally, nearly half of the deck that I actually have physically sleeved up are dated Prerelease foils, which of course makes this deck look over twice as expensive as it actually is (could've been, lol)..

Early-Mid Game.. Show

Wreck havoc on the opponent's Hand & Boardstate, dragging them kicking & screaming into the Mid/Late Game top-decking mode..

Duress: Classic 1-mana Hand disruption..

Warping Wail: The "Eldrazi Charm".. Three modes, with four relevant uses: value..

Read the Bones: An effective Midrange/Control deck generally has fabulous card draw; and this card does not disappoint..

Murder: Clean, flexible, unconditional creature destruction.. For : it dies at instant-speed. Period..

Ruinous Path : More unconditional creature destruction; except trade "sorcery-speed" for the ability to destroy annoying Planeswalkers (which I predict are going to be popular), and the off-chance of even creating a Late-game Man-Land..

Languish: Best sweeper in the format; nuff said..

Mid-Late Game.. Show

-Eldrazi Menace..

After scorching the Battlefield with copious amounts of heavy magic, out of the devastation 'emerge' huge, oppressive, value monsters that put games on very short clocks..

Matter Reshaper : Great for offense or defense, and they replace themselves when they die! Value!

Bearer of Silence : Nearly-always cast' for , this one elicits obvious echoes of Gatekeeper of Malakir ; Removal on an aggressive flyer; value!

Thought-Knot Seer: Premium Hand Disruption on a meaty 4/4 body! Value!

Reality Smasher: A game-ending 5/5 Trample Haste, that's effectively "taxes" against most removal?! Value!

Distended Mindbender: More Hand Disruption on a 5/5 body, with possible cost reduction! Value!
