Homebrew Commander

I homebrewed this lady to see how a Splice/Name-Match EDH burn deck might function. So far its main win conditions are storm, big fireballs, and burn to face––and like a lot of mono-Red burn decks, it either burns hot and bright or sputters and fizzles out, but splice seems to make it more reliable.

So far I like that I can splice "Draw a Card" cantrips onto other spells to keep my hand full for longer, which is a common struggle in mono-Red (barring Wheels).

Anyway, here are the stars of the deck:

• Thrumming Stone and Surging Flame are no-brainers. You get to Ripple for any Instant/Sorcery, and you can splice onto each one for additional effects.
• Pyromancer Ascension can get counters now! Yay!
• Twinning Glass lets you pay for big stuff.
• Locket of Yesterdays makes each consecutive "All-Named" spell cost less.
• Spellweaver Helix has some serious combo potential; you can cast a sorcery on it with each "All-Named" spell. (I thought it was both initially, but the rulings say you can only copy one of the imprinted cards for each spell cast, I think.)
• Rite of Flame can be an unexpected springboard when you have a lot of "All-Named" spells in your graveyard (even though they revert at end of turn).

• Kindle and Flame Burst work a little like a combination between Rite of Flame and Grapeshot .

• Discounts from Ruby Medallion , Long-Forgotten Gohei , and The Immortal Sun affect the Splice costs granted by Mayla, so even one of them can make draw cantrips like Expedite and Overmaster extremely potent, allowing a card to be drawn for just for each spell you cast.

• The same can be said for mana spells like Desperate Ritual and Pyretic Ritual , which when discounted by and spliced generate a net gain of , or with another discount. Seething Song is even more effective this way.
• Pyromancer's Gauntlet can help deal immense damage repeatedly if you splice burn spells like Wizard's Lightning and Lightning Bolt onto one another, since each "deal damage" effect triggers separately. (That's (3+2)+(3+2) = 10 damage for 3-4 mana, or 2 mana with a discount.)
