Vampires! Wurmcoil Engine! That's about it!

Started off as a mono-black tribal vampire deck that I cobbled together from the Deckbuilder's Toolkit just after the 2011 Core Set was released - which was a terrible deck with little removal, focus, or tribal support.

This deck has been through several poorly-focused iterations, with a predominantly tribal theme and 2x Wurmcoil Engine thrown in for the hell of it.

In short,

--> Low-mana vampire spam + Bloodline Keeper  Flip
--> Lots of removal
--> Wurmcoil Engine as a surprise bomb
--> 1/1 and 2/2 flier generation, 1/1 lifelinker generation

In long,

The main idea is to get Bloodline Keeper  Flip out as soon as possible, using Dark Ritual to cheat it onto the field. Low-mana vampires like Bloodghast and Vampire Lacerator help bump up the vampire count to 5 to allow Keeper to transform. Bloodghast also has fantastic staying power - keeping an Evolving Wilds on the field in case they get wiped out is a neat idea - bringing them back and keeping the vampire count up.

The rest of the deck is largely without focus - Doom Blade and Go for the Throat will help deal with enemy creatures, the High Priest of Penance and the vampire nighthawks largely play a strong defensive role alongside Lingering Souls. The latter is particularly handy against token decks - even the weakest weenie with evasion helps tip the score in your favour.

I've recently added Drana, Liberator of Malakir to the decklist - this deck contains several creatures with evasion and extra goodies - rewarding myself for actually using them is a good idea.

The Wurmcoil Engines are largely in the deck for fun, and are handy backup bombs if everything goes wrong. Also, there's no better fun to be had than getting it on the field on turn 2 because your opening hand included two lands, two Dark Rituals and a Wurmcoil Engine.

ATTN: Removing the Plains, adding 4x Isolated Chapel.

Updates Add

So, I've opted to remove the Banishing Light from my deck. Unsure whether this is a good idea, will keep them in the sideboard.

2x Drana, Liberator of Malakir all aboard - replacing her emissaries.

Considering removing High Priest of Penance for something overpowered and disgusting. 2x Phyrexian Obliterator going into the sideboard.

We'll see.

We'll see.
