Marisi, Breaker of the Coil - Chill and Kill

Commander / EDH Budget Control Cruel Control RGW (Naya)

JurrrB

Hi guys! I am quite new to tappedout and this is actually my first ever deck published here, so I am open to any suggestions! As I'm a student with not much money to spare I've chosen to make a budget deck here. I usually play commander quite casual with the same playgroup, so this might not be the most competitive deck for some of you.

Short Summary

Marisi is a commander that I think is best used as a control/chaotic deck with a bit of pillow fort embedded into it. Your opponents' forces should be doing the legwork for you, after which you can finish them off with your shadow creatures. Your removal should be reserved only for permanents that will win your opponents games or any other combo pieces. Marisi's goading ability will make opponents kill each other, so you can build your army and easily finnish the last opponent standing off. You want enough "hard to block" creatures (aka shadow creatures in this deck) so that you force the table to play the way you like it: Creature Based Massacre.

Deck Strategy and Playstyle

As mentioned earlier, my choise for this commander deck will be a Naya Chaos/Control Deck, where I abuse Marisi's Goad ability as much as possible.

The endgame of the deck is to deny my opponents from attacking me and forcing them to turn their forces elsewhere. Eventually leaving it to a 1 on 1 situation with the remaining opponent. However, reaching this situation is challenging. So how do we achieve this you may ask...

Marisi's first ability disallowing your opponents from casting spells during combat is much more helpful than you'd expect. I know from myself that I always wait to cast instant-speed removals for when I get targeted in combat, which is usually the smartest thing to do. But due to Marisi's first ability opponents don't have this luxury, which can make for hasty plays or waste of resources. That is really the brialliance of the ability: forcing opponents to make tough decisions under pressure.

Card selection for this deck is quite heavenly based on the second ability of Marisi. Therefore many low CMC "hard to stop" creatures with shadow come into play. All my opponents need is a little scratch by one of these and all their creatures are goaded. But, you also need cards that protect your creatures from removal or protect yourself from combat if you did not manage to goad all opponents' creatures. So essentially you also create a small pillow fort to make it even harder for opponents to come after you.

Now that we are safe and opponents will attack each other, there is one thing left to do: Speed up the process. This can be easily done with high synergy cards that create tokens for opponents that are unable to attack you. Or give small boosts to creatures if they attack an opponent. We are essentially hoarding the board, but not ours, no... theirs. This creates a fun environment to play in and should bring in a little political flair to the game. Now that all opponents are at war and you are just casually getting stronger with more utility spells it eventually gets down to a 1v1 situation.

Now you may wonder, how on earth am I going to kill the strongest opponent if the goad ability doesn't work anymore? Well quite simple actually... How about a little Mob Rule for instance. That is even despite the fact that you have hard to block creatures and great advantages in combat due to spells like Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist , Ghostly Prison , Crawlspace , etc. So, if all goes well, the game should be in your favor.

Card Types and Categories

Because Marisi is RGW, it is easy to ramp with green spells. Of course in commander we use some handy artifacts to get some mana ramp going. So the most important cards used for ramp is listed below:
To protect ourselves and make sure opponents will attack each other a pillow fort tactic is used. We then control the board with cards listed below to get on the winning hand.
As been said, you need low CMC creatures that are hard to block to ensure you deal some damage to opponents and get that goad ability going. So down here the list of those creatures. Apart from these we have some spells that create tokens for opponents to speed up the creature massacre.
Apart from all spell listed above, we have some removals and wipes to turn things around. This is only used one absolutely neccecary.

Wrap-Up

Creating this deck tech was a first for me. I really enjoy making decks and hope that I can inspire some of you to some great deck ideas. I would like to point out one more time that any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for reading this and enjoy this brand new commander and the fun control and chaos he brings to the table.
