Tenth District Butcher (War)

Standard* Aristocrats RBW (Mardu)

TheTrueSchmamook

My take on a Mardu “aristocrats” deck with a little haste and utilizing that hard hitting Demonic Vigor + Dreadhorde Butcher .

I still consider myself new to the magic game and built/tweaked this off my deck Chewin' Bubble Gum once I found out what an Aristocrats deck type was. My other deck is fast and only a few card changes, but they both seem just as strong.

Let’s get into the meat of the deck.

Turn 1

Footlight Fiend is nice and can double proc the trigger if Teysa Karlov happens to be out.

On the other hand I’m thinking of Banehound . The lifelink from Banehound with either of Demonic Vigor or Infernal Scarring can come in really flippin’ handy. It also has haste.

Turn 2

We’re looking to drop Dreadhorde Butcher . I’ve noticed that you’ll most likely be able to hit and generate a counter. At this point you’ve guaranteed three damage. If you get Teysa Karlov out that’s five damage.

Now if you don’t have el butcher in hand, you’ll be looking to drop Tenth District Legionnaire , and slapping face. I decided on this over Cruel Celebrant for the haste. Additionally I thought it worked well with Demonic Vigor and Infernal Scarring . Generate that additional damage with the counter triggers.

If you biffed your draw and didn’t have either, hopefully you have another Footlight Fiend in hand or maybe infernal scarring. You’ll be able to pump your little to 3, draw a card when it dies, and still get one damage on player. Save to block, or swing on open opponent. Profit?

Turn 3

Drop. That. Judith. Increases power on all creatures, increases damage of dreadhorde butchers death trigger, increases value on Footlight Fiend s death trigger, and is just an all around good card.

Drop Spawn of Mayhem if you’ve managed to deal damage to the opponent to pay the spectacle cost. Every upkeep will instantly allow you to cast spectacle costs of another Spawn of Mayhem or Skewer the Critics . Also puts the game on a slow timer, but a timer nonetheless.

Double pump using any Demonic Vigor + Infernal Scarring on either Dreadhorde Butcher or Tenth District Legionnaire .

Turn 4

Teysa Karlov She is just too much fun!! Double proc butcher, footlight, Judith, and infernal scarring. Extra damage, and draws. Would also help if I had Cruel Celebrant or Mayhem Devil like some real aristocrats decks, but I dig hitting hard the first few turns and then waiting a turn or two to finish the remainder off.

Bedeck / Bedazzle will mainly be used to increase the value of Dreadhorde Butcher . If he has enough toughness to survive the -3 you’ll do tons of damage, kill a thing, or they block causing the death and trigger proc taking tons of damage no matter what. Karlov doubles that damage.

You’ve probably noticed less mana and less creatures than most aristocrat decks, but so far it’s working. Might add 2 more, but we’ll see. I’ve noticed that the mana curve is rather low, but it gets skewed because of Bedeck / Bedazzle s cmc being 8. I only ever use bedeck, so the real mana curve is lower. I also only really ever pay the spectacle costs of Skewer the Critics and Spawn of Mayhem .

Let me know what you think and if you see room for improvement! Don’t forget to +1 if you dig it!
