Slam down some knights to go aggro!
This deck has a low curve and only 22 lands. We run 16 1-drops, including 4 copies of
Foulmire Knight
to keep the curve as low as possible so we're always using all our mana each turn.
There are a lot of creatures that have or grant deathtouch, which makes blocking difficult for the opponent.
Blacklance Paragon
+
Fervent Champion
or
Embercleave
+ a deathtouch creature creates opportunities for 2-for-1s while pushing through a blocking creature.
Wintermoor Commander
is criminally underplayed, presenting a great target for
Embercleave
, while also granting indestructible to another valuable (
Inspiring Veteran
) or fragile knight (
Blacklance Paragon
), allowing you to keep punching in for damage. On the draw it's a great blocker.
You'll notice this deck doesn't play any 3-drops. First of all, they are very awkward in multiples, as you miss your chance for an explosive start. Second, this deck only runs 22 lands, so it's not uncommon to be stuck on 2 lands on turn 3. We also don't have the mana to consistently cast the adventure mode of
Murderous Rider
, which makes it less appealing.
Acclaimed Contender
is too slow and doesn't pressure the opponent enough.
I choose to run
Foulmire Knight
over
Weaselback Redcap
because if they're both going to die in combat anyways, I'd rather not invest the extra mana to take down the opponent's creature.
Knight of the Ebon Legion
is a better mana sink. Plus the adventure mode of
Foulmire Knight
is occasionally relevant.
