Sideboard

Mardu Aristocrats!

Note: You can sacrifice Bloodsoaked Champion to give Butcher of the Horde Vigilance, declare attacks, buy back Champion with Raid trigger, then sac it again for Lifelink.

  • Cards that people are curious about:

  • Outpost Siege: Always have the first one be Khans. I've found that drawing two cards per turn is really good, especially when you're prone to flooding out with 25 lands. Second one is a toss-up about whether or not you're going to be on Khans or Dragons, but generally if it's stable/you're ahead you want to set the second one on Dragons. If you draw all three and set them all to Khans and you STILL aren't winning, go ahead and concede because you won't make it before time in the round.

  • Sultai Emissary : This is the closest thing we have to Doomed Traveler (that I know of). A creature that actively gets better when it dies, it basically draws and casts a 2/2 for me, for free.

  • Valorous Stance: This card is nuts and you should all buy a playset now before they turn into $3 cards. Shoots Siege Rhino, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, opposing Butcher of the Horde, wingmate rock, Courser of Kruphix. Also blanks the opponent's End Hostilities, Crux of Fate , or Hero's Downfall.

  • Tymaret, the Murder King: Our main engine, and I'll get into more detail with him at a later date.

  • Purphoros, God of the Forge: Intense synergy with all of our cards. If you untap with him on T5, consider your opponent officially on the clock and start being aggressive with your Bloodsoaked Champion and Goblin Rabblemaster tokens. Sacrifice whatever gets blocked to Tymaret, the Murder King and buy back Bloodsoaked Champion for another 2 damage.

  • Read the Bones: I'm not sure if this card is the correct one for this deck, but I'm also not sure what to put in its place. Being able to look at up to 4 cards with a three mana investment is backbreaking against some decks.

The Sideboard:

  • Abzan Advantage : Could possibly be an Erase , trying to see if the Bolster effect is worth the extra mana.

  • Thoughtseize: Being able to cherry pick shenanigans out of your opponent's hand is fun. We're also weak to planeswalkers, and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon will probably be major trouble.

  • Glare of Heresy : This has trouble dealing with Elspeth, Sun's Champion (and Siege Rhino, obviously). Board it in against Abzan Midrange and W/x Heroic.

  • End Hostilities: This format is dependent on creature based board presence, and every deck needs a reset button. Bring it in against Abzan, 4c Soul, Sidisi whip, and Monsters. Only running one because those decks are also starting to run Whisperwood Elemental, which makes things difficult.

  • Magma Spray: I got tired of letting Monastery Mentor and Rabblemaster pick up games against me. Not using Wild Slash because I'll almost never use the Ferocious clause, whereas Exile happens always, whether it's useful or not. Spray also hoses Ashcloud Phoenix and Flamewake Phoenix .

  • Arc Lightning : I got tired of letting Jeskai Aggro/Tokens pick up games against me

  • Hero's Downfall: Ugin is a bad spot for us. If we can't answer him immediately it's almost guaranteed to lock the game up.
