Originally a Grixis vampire deck, then Edgar Markov came out and I wanted him in, but didn't want to cut out the (at the time) few but cool blue vampires. Since then they've bounced back and forth, so now all the non-black colors feel evenly represented.

Breya was initially a purely color identity based decision, but the addition of blood tokens has given her a lot more mechanical value now too. And I still love the flavor of having a powerful-personality human helm the deck, resisting the allure, but eventually succumbing to vampiric temptations (there are a couple of ways to make her a vampire).

Original Description

Vampire Tribal. The vampire tribe has a substantial relationship with +1/+1 counters: Bloodthirst, gaining them for hitting players, getting them when creatures they hit die, etc. Marchesa will take this aspect of the tribe and crank it to a thematic 11; she even lets them ressurect if they drink blood this way. Marchesa's scheming, power grabbing machinations are also perfect for the soon-to-be scion of this vampire house. The deck does include several ways to complete Marchesa's ascension tovthe vampire ranks.

When the Commander 2016 product is released, if there's a R/U/B/W legend that is on-theme with the deck, it will transform to splash white. Then Vish Kal and Sorin can come home at last.
