A sultai self-mill deck for the new set War of the Spark. This deck uses the passive ability of
Jace. Wielder of Mysteries
. The Golgari will be used to salvage the necessary cards from my graveyard as I will be recklessly milling myself looking for
Jace. Wielder of Mysteries
and the bottom of my deck.
I will be using the surveil mechanic to throw unnecessary cards in my graveyard and cards that allow me to draw. This will allow me to have a card advantage through the draw and through the ability to bring cards from the graveyard to my hand.
I will be using the ability of
Golgari Findbroker
to fetch
Jace. Wielder of Mysteries
from my graveyard to my hand to ensure that I have my win condition active when I need him.
The archetype of this deck will be largely control as I do not need to deal lethal damage to my enemy to win and I need to sabotage as throwing 60 cards away will take more time than dealing 20 damage.
Due to the fact that I intent to go late game, if my opponent is able to remove my
Jace. Wielder of Mysteries
I have a
Hydroid Krasis
in case damage is the only way I can win.
Due to the deck not needing to target the opponent's life total to win, my plays will be very defence and will aim to make my draw engine as efficient and sustainable as possible while delaying my opponent as he attempts to whittle my life total down before I can deplete my deck.
Attempts to double up creatures for spells are important in this deck as it'll allow me to use them both to sabotage my opponent's plans and create a blocker for myself, getting value from the cast and denying him on direct and indirect fronts. Cards like these include
Plaguecrafter
and
Frilled Mystic
allowing for counters and removal on their cast.
Cards like
Mission Briefing
,
Golgari Findbroker
and
The Eldest Reborn
allow for the reuse of discarded material and allow me to use them as wildcards, giving the option of a multitude of casts for a number of different situations.
Finally, the fail safe,
Mastermind's Acquisition
, another wildcard that tutors a card from my deck that is failing to be drawn and a response to someone who had exiled
Jace. Wielder of Mysteries
or an equally important card for my deck to beat my opponent.
Though seeming viable, I may be in over my head. Suggestions and comments are more than welcome and regular updates will most likely come as more and more of the new set is revealed. Thank you for your attention and the read this deck and description and I wish you luck in your own deck building.
Again, have fun.
