Interesting win condition.

The only advice I can give is perhaps Gold MyrMTG Card: Gold Myr and Tempered SteelMTG Card: Tempered Steel, along with black white or blue white lands for that extra bump.

I disagree. Getting a double white cost on turn 3 in a BU is almost impossible. He would have to make a very odd mana base to compensate. I would stick to your current plan.

However, I do agree that you are most likely going to die before anything happens. You probably need removal and counterspells. I feel like this deck is way too slow for what decks are being run out there today.

@Forsaken12101: No. Splashing white for almost no reason is just silly.

@fireteam: Evil TwinMTG Card: Evil Twin and CryptoplasmMTG Card: Cryptoplasm are supposed to protect me if they put any strong creatures on the field, as is UnsummonMTG Card: Unsummon. Undying EvilMTG Card: Undying Evil and Turn AsideMTG Card: Turn Aside are supposed to protect against removal and damage spells. If I have an extra ExsanguinateMTG Card: Exsanguinate, it can be used to give myself enough life for an extra turn or so to get the combo.

Any suggestions for rounded sideboard, to protect against specific colors or strategies?

Any ideas about how to make it get played faster? Ramps and cheep fetches, maybe?

For a bit of reference, out of 25 playtests, I had the working combo on the field and the win-condition cards in hand, on average, in 6.8 turns. Specific numbers:

[(6, 6), (4, 4), (5, 4), (7, 4), (8, 3), (11, 2), (10, 1), (14, 1)]

First number is # of turns, second number is # of games with that turn.

did you playtest just against air? or did you open another tab with another deck and actually play?

my friend ran a red/green infinite mana myr deck with FireballMTG Card: Fireball as his wincon (killing every1 in multiplayer)

the thing is once people realize what you're playing (which is pretty obvious with myrs) they will start killing of you're Myr GalvanizerMTG Card: Myr Galvanizers really fast.

I guess you're playign on a budget seing no dual lands but try to get some. and then add in Mana LeakMTG Card: Mana Leak for better protection..

Palladium MyrMTG Card: Palladium Myr is also better as a 4 of since it requires you to have less myrs out for infinite.

im also no fan of Diabolic TutorMTG Card: Diabolic Tutor maybe drop all or atleast 2 for something like Think TwiceMTG Card: Think Twice? if you do that you can hold up mana for Mana LeakMTG Card: Mana Leak and if they do nothign scary at the end of the turn just tap 2 and go Think TwiceMTG Card: Think Twice, sounds goo eh? gl

Glycan says... #6

@Vman: Yes, I was playing against air. I didn't realize that you could play against decks.

As I said to fireteam, I have several cards to protect the Galvanizers, almost all of which cost one mana.

Diabolic Tutor means I can get exactly the card that I'm missing, be it a wincon or a Myr. Think Twice doesn't. I almost always have a mana left over at the end of the turn, anyway.

What kinds of dual lands?

well theres Darkslick ShoresMTG Card: Darkslick Shores (which are $10 a peice) and Drowned CatacombMTG Card: Drowned Catacomb (a bit cheaper)

the thing about Diabolic TutorMTG Card: Diabolic Tutor is you spend 4 mana on getting a card you wont be able to use this turn... 4 mana is alot.. you wont be able to protect you're cards..

there was an article somewhere before about Diabolic TutorMTG Card: Diabolic Tutor's real effect..

"pay 4 mana this turn, get the card you need next turn then die misserably." but if you're playgroup isnt so harsh then its ok.

oh and i think SpellskiteMTG Card: Spellskite declined in price recently (unsure)

@Vman: I searched for all Standard lands, and the BU I found cost fairly ridiculousness amounts of money. So no.

May 18, 2012 8:39 a.m.

Glycan says... #9

@Vman: I invariably have a mana and either Undying Evil, either Turn Aside, either Unsummon to spend it on. Oh, and about the Pladanium Myr, those take more time to summon, and thus are harder to ramp with.

Why don't you bump that up to 4 Palladium MyrMTG Card: Palladium Myrs? You can get the combo more efficiently then. You might want to consider Swiftfoot BootsMTG Card: Swiftfoot Boots.

Also, Diabolic TutorMTG Card: Diabolic Tutor really is a bad card, I would recommend stuff that goes at instant speed (Forbidden AlchemyMTG Card: Forbidden Alchemy, Think TwiceMTG Card: Think Twice).

You said you got the combo at turn 6.8 at average? Unless your playgroup is really nice, you should be dead against a large amount of decks. The current standard meta is very pushed towards aggro (Naya Aggro, R/G Aggro, Humans, Pod) and I feel with little to no protection to block, you will die. With only 6 copy spells with a average CMC of 3, you will have to slow down the combo just simply to block one out of many creatures they control. I would take out blue completely and put in white instead for one of the best cards ever made, Lingering SoulsMTG Card: Lingering Souls for blockers.

@fireteam: My logic was that with, Palladium MyrMTG Card: Palladium Myrs alone, you can't get a turn-4 wincon.

  1. Land
  2. Land
  3. Land
  4. Land + Palladium Myr
  5. Land + Myr Galvenizer x2 + Wincon

As apposed to

  1. Land
  2. Land + Sliver/Leaden Myr
  3. Land + Palladium Myr + Myr Galvenizer
  4. Myr Galvenizer + Wincon

Although the chances of the former are 5/25. I'll try out Forbidden Alchemy, which seems a great deal more useful than that Think Twice for only one more mana. Also, why should they be at instant speed?

Glycan says... #13

@fireteam: Based on your suggestions, I replaced 2x Silver Myr by 2x Palladium Myr, 2x Leaden Myr by 2x Alloy Myr, 4x Diabolic Tutors by 4x Forbidden Alchemy. Here's the stats:

  • Average: 11.4
  • Length: 5
  • Frequancy: [(8, 1), (12, 1), (11, 1), (20, 1), (6, 1)]

I'll try out replacing the Alloy Myr by shapeshifters.

Glycan says... #14

@fireteam: So I did that, I replaced Think TwiceMTG Card: Think Twice with Forbidden Alchemy, and got slightly better results, but still worse than the original

  • Average: 9.4
  • Length: 5
  • Frequancy: [(8, 2), (9, 1), (10, 1), (12, 1)]

I generally have to many Exsanguinates than I need. What if I removed some in exchange for some Forbidden Alchemy? Also, 2 shapeshifters for the same.

May 20, 2012 6:42 a.m.

Glycan says... #15

@fireteam: Did the above, got:

  • Average: 8.0
  • Length: 5
  • Frequancy: [(10, 1), (12, 1), (5, 1), (6, 1), (7, 1)]
May 20, 2012 6:58 a.m.

Glycan says... #16

For the same:

  • Average: 7.6
  • Length: 10
  • Frequancy: [(6, 3), (12, 2), (5, 2), (7, 2), (10, 1)]

And if I replace the 6 defensive spells with 3 of each monocolor Myr, tweek the lands, and accidently remove the two Evil Twins..:

  • Average: 7.0
  • Length: 10
  • Frequancy: [(7, 4), (9, 2), (5, 2), (10, 1), (4, 1)]

This is looking a lot better. I might recommend DismemberMTG Card: Dismember, you can pay the three if you want to, or you can get a kill spell for only 1 mana.

Questions:

  • Any ideas for things that give everyone haste cheeply? That would give me a couple of turns of advantage, if done right
  • Shapeshifter themes
  • Token swarm clearers that cost cheaper IRL than Ratchet Bomb
May 21, 2012 10:03 a.m.

The mana loop idea is cool. But all that mana and just cheap spells to spend it on? I'd say throw in something scary then with all those useless myrs Infinite ReflectionMTG Card: Infinite Reflection them.

May 21, 2012 12:39 p.m.

Just a thought outside of ExsanguinateMTG Card: Exsanguinate anyway

May 21, 2012 12:41 p.m.

Glycan says... #21

@EndingWithDrake: Really no, because the Myr really aren't useless, and they aren't there for the mana. This isn't an ramp-then-reflect deck.

nice kitchen table deck.

May 23, 2012 7:12 p.m.

Glycan says... #23

@Dirt3pz: Well, what does it lack?

May 23, 2012 7:34 p.m.

Toddington says... #24

Have you considered red, it gives you access to Whipflare and Fireball variants?

Steel Hellkite is another infinite sink that isn't useless when you don't have infinte mana.

Shimmer Myr, flash out your combo pieces around removal counters.

Nice deck.

May 26, 2012 5:54 p.m.

Glycan says... #25

@Toddington: Whipflare would be very useful, but only as a sideboard, since it's fairly useless against control or (less so) ramp decks.

Steel Hellkite is useless with infinite mana and costs to much otherwise.

Shimmer Myr , as afar as I understand, isn't that useful - what would I gain by playing them as flashes? What exactly do you mean by 'removal counters'?
