Win Con and Starting Primer —Feb. 24, 2018

In playtesting I noticed this deck doesn't have a wincon to just stop the game and win, so as I paid for a Land Equilibrium I'm gonna use it. So you need to have either that, or Ward of Bones (preferably that) and play Armageddon (once you have Ojutai out) and boom

Secondly, I'm gonna make a Primer for the deck, because it has 43 upvotes, why not make a Primer?

Edit: Found a better win cond Enchanted Evening+Cleansing Meditation

Lightning Greaves is bad here - you don't want to give your commander shroud. you're much better of just running Brave the Sands which gives vigilance.

You don't have enough permanents to warrant running Martyr's Bond.

Kira, Great Glass-Spinner seems bad in an equipment deck. paying equip costs twice is not fun. And other than GAAIV your creatures aren't high priority targets.

You're a little light on card draw. Impulse, Gitaxian Probe, Dig Through Time and Mystic Confluence are good card advantage pieces. Also Mesa Enchantress.

You need more counterspells. Five is not enough for the kind of control deck you're playing. Swan Song, Mindbreak Trap, Unsubstantiate, even Arcane Denial and Memory Lapse aren't bad inclusions.

I've never seen Omniscience while yes it is higher cost that's so awesome and works great in this deck.

Good notes, and I completely forgot that Kira targets your own creatures! Fuck she's getting out of here now. However some of those counter spells are not good enough (such as putting on top of library), as I play games with about 5 people in my friend group. If it is going to be countered it is going to the graveyard.

Lightning Greaves could leave I guess, I will make some changes as the time goes on. I ordered a lot of cards around Christmas for a different type of deck.

When I get home I will make some changes to the decklist, but the physical version won't change for a month or two.

I got you! +1

I have an ojutai deck in my playgroup, it was kind of thrown together as a chaos control deck so seeing what it could be is impressive and dealing with that dragon can be a pain.

I have 90% of this deck built irl, but when I get that last 10% I'm going to start reporting how it performs in certain matchups! I hope it does well. This will be my first time playing formal constructed control. I can't wait to learn the intricacies of it

I'd love to hear about how it goes. The one I play against has way more instants and that's all he focuses on and will counter and bounce anything even when it's not in his best interest.

Hvae you thought about Fireshrieker as an equipment for the deck? it closes out games quickly and with Ojutai it can potentially let you dig 6 cards deep. Also, I would recommend trying to get your hands on a Stoneforge Mystic.

You should cut Azorius Chancery. The land is slow nad not worth running. Even an Opal Palace would be better than it.

I really should, I have been on and off of getting a Stoneforge Mystic almost a year. Soon I will get one, soon.

As for Fireshrieker I fully agree, I haven't seen the card before that is why it isn't in the deck. As for Azorius Chancery, I will probably replace it with a cheap dual land till I can get a Flooded Strand or another quality land.

My LGS sells one and recently started a points system, so I will pick up a mystic ASAP.

Nothing wrong with adding one or two specific hate cards. Plus card advantage is nice. For equipment tutoring, you also have Open the Armory and Stonehewer Giant. As for targets, Batterskull is also good (it gives vigilance) plus provides a body.

Have you considered looking into cards like Monastery Mentor or Talrand, Sky Summoner as you incorporate more spells into the deck?

As it happens I have both a Monastery Mentor and Talrand, Sky Summoner

Batterskull will be an eventual inclusion, however I don't have an easy way to get it just yet. I recently spent over $200 this Christmas on Magic so I'm going to wait before it goes in the decklist.

What would you recommend to take out for Stoneforge Mystic and the other two? I'm having a distinctly difficult time finding what to cut out for them. I'm indecisive like that lol

I'm not a fan of either Banishing Light or Cast Out. They're not bad, but a bit too slow. I also think that Hero's Blade is underwhelming to say the least.

The deck is in a good state for now, if you want to take a look again.

Hero's Blade is a good card, but it does have to be dropped before Ojutai. However in practice, when it gets out, it puts me within winning in a few turns.

Cast Out and Banishing Light are bombs in my playgroup, there is such a variety of permanents being played that I have to have that versatility.

Maybe one at most, but the point of the counterspells and all is to protect Ojutai from danger, in a Voltron deck such as this, if you cannot protect your commander (In Ojutais Case) you don't tap them.

If you liked the deck at all make sure to upvote;)
