Maistil the Dreamer's Game Plan

Mairsil is in my opinion a criminally overlooked commander, and even those who do decide to brew with him tend to go with combo only builds. I have attempted to brew a semi combo and fun value synergy deck with him. This deck is filled with so many amazing activated abilities that can allow for lots of different situations. While I did still add some combos in the deck, I don't plan to force that as my only win condition.

Mairsil is a firm believer of you can be whatever you want to be in life, and this deck is evidence of that. One card in particular really allows Mairsil to be who ever or whatever he wants to be. That card is Mirage Mirror . The activated ability on this card is absolutely busted if you're able to cage it without anyone stopping you. Yes you could be boring and just target Mairsil to just get all of the abilities again, but like I said that's boring and there are more fun things we can do than just combo off. For example Mairsil can now become a copy of our opponents commander! Or if there is a boardwipe in the forecast Mairsil can easily disguise himself as a mountain and no one will ever know. If we are able to use Helm of the Host to make a non-legendary copy of Mairsil the potential for things to get even more out of hand increases so much! We could make one of them a copy of an opponents creature and another as one of their combo pieces and win with their combo!

All of this potential may seem a little out there and hard to accomplish, but with some tutors to fix our graveyard it helps make this dream a possibility. Some of the cards that help to make this happen are: Buried Alive , Entomb , Gamble , Planar Bridge , and Razaketh, the Foulblooded . All of these cards allow for Mairsil to setup some fun shenanigans. Buried Alive especially is a great card to see in the opening hand, because Anger allows you to easily get haste for your commander, AEtherling to allow you to add more abilities to him each turn, and Arcanis the Omnipotent allowing you to draw three cards and giving you more abilities to make Mairsil more awesome every turn (including your opponents turns!) until you get to the point where Mairsil is becoming a monsterous flying indestructable horror monster with hexproof and infect and so many other key words.

The Tutors Show

Mairsil can really act all nice and just not do crazy destructive things, but he's also fantastic at pretending...
While I did say that Mairsil does not always want to take the boring combo path, there are still moments when Mairsil needs to show the plebs his full wrath. To do this there are some combos that can instantly kill an opponent out of the blue. His opponents will watch as all of their lands get destroyed, their creatures taken from their grasp and Mairsil is the man of the hour bringing the death and sadness to all of those who dare come against him. In order to do this there are some game ending combos that our opponents can't do much to fight.
