Maelstrom Wanderer, King of Cool Cascade Kids

Commander / EDH* RUG (Temur)

Enchantment (1)

Creature (1)

Hello everyone! This is my brew for Maelstrom Wanderer EDH. It's a strange mix of value goodstuff creatures, ramp, fun cards with randomized effects that can be powerful, and a bunch of big game ending cards. This deck doesn't play a lot of "staples", so this is a fun and powerful deck that doesn't win the same way every time. This deck only has one tutor.

This deck is for you if:-You like variation in your games-You love casting spells for free-Cascade is your favorite mechanic-You like winning out of nowhere with huge hasty creatures-Your playgroup isn't crazy competitive and doesn't have a combo-heavy meta

This isn't for you if:-You love infinite combos-Your meta is super competitive-Your in love with your staples

HOW TO PLAY THE DECK

Honestly, this deck is quite simple to play. But, if you want them, here are some tips:

-Ramp early and often. There is a lot of land and artifact ramp in this deck. You need it. This is an extremely mana-hungry deck.

-Play out early creatures when you can. They are there to give you an initial presence in the game. Sometimes, I find it more important to have bodies than to ramp in the early game. Shardless Agent and Bloodbraid Elf help you with your early game even more, because almost anything that they could hit is either ramp or more early game presence (not including Regrowth or Chaos Warp).

-Embrace the chaos of playing Mind's Desire, Unexpected Results, Mind's Dilation, and the cascade cards in general.

-Cloudstone Curio, Crystal Shard, and Man-o'-War are there to bounce the cascade and etb creatures. The Curio in particular can do some crazy things if you manage to start bouncing and replaying two cascade creatures.

-Try to cast Cascade King as soon as you can. Your board presence can go up significantly after it's out.

-Find a way to win. This is not a very hard thing to do. A ton of the creatures in this deck are must-kill threats that can run away with a game by themselves. The best win condition in this deck is Pathbreaker Ibex, imho. It buffs the team immediately if Wanderer is out and turns little early game creatures into threats.

-Bonus Section: Momir Vig, Simic Visionary. Yes, he needs his own section. So, this is how you use him to get the most of those juicy triggers. (Step 1): Cast Viggy. (Step 2): Cast Maelstrom Wanderer. (Step3): Stack the triggers so that you look at the top card of your library first, then his tutor to put a creature on top of your library. Then, allow the first cascade trigger to resolve. Then, repeat Step 3. Some good creatures to tutor up together: Avenger of Zendikar + Pathbreaker Ibex, Pathbreaker Ibex + Molten Primordial, or if you want to just cast more free stuff and cause some chaos: Rashmi, Eternities Crafter + Arjun, the Shifting Flame

That's pretty much it! If you need some budget replacements, just comment. I'm sure I can find you some good substitutions. I'm open to any suggestions

EDIT: Starworm Surge > Momir Vig, Simic Visionary

Surge was never amazing, and though Momir Vig, Simic Visionary is a tutor, he does stupidly ridiculous things in this deck.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds > Arjun, the Shifting Flame

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds has been a bit underwhelming. Some games she is very good, but some games feel like I already have a ton of mana, and though I like her, I really like Arjun, the Shifting Flame. He matches the theme of chaos wonderfully, and this deck has never cared too much about shuffling away it's hand.

Prime Speaker Zegana > Decimate

Don't get me wrong, Talking Fish is very good in a lot of circumstances. The first problem is when you cascade into her when there is only a 1/1 on the field (Wanderer isn't on the battlefield when it is cast with cascade). The other problem is that I don't really need the card draw as much as I need to be able to blow up a bunch of stuff.
