Lotus Noire, aka Lydiana DeMontarg, is a D&D character I've played for 8 years. Every card matches her story and recreates her combat-style. I own this deck in real life, having assembled the cards through the years. She is my Mtg masterpiece: always incredibly fun and absolutely unpredictable to play, and extremely powerful.
STRATEGY: VERSATILITY CONTROL
Most cards here are versatile enough to be used either as powerful control cards or as brutal win conditions.
Early game, use
Burning Wish/
Cunning Wish to fetch small control spells like
Flame Slash/
Lightning Bolt;
Terminate/
Dreadbore;
Duress/
Dispel,
Envelop or
Annul;
Anger of the Gods/
Volcanic Fallout; etc. Use
Devil's Play to burn early threats, protect yourself with
Spellskite, then steal the good creatures with
Sower of Temptation and
Treachery.
Kolaghan's Command can also disrupt your opponent's early strategy, while giving you card advantage.
Mid-game, cast
Ob Nixilis Reignited to gain card advantage and kill creatures. His ultimate isn't the goal: card advantage is. Use
Burning Wish to push your control beyond the board by destroying lands or hands (fetch
Wake of Destruction,
Rakdos's Return, etc.). With
Cunning Wish, fetch repeatable counterspells or cards that gain control of your opponent's next spells to achieve total control of the game (fetch
Forbid,
Desertion,
Commandeer, etc.) Many other wishes can be used to turn the game around in your favor if the board is out of control.
Void and
Tsabo's Decree, for example, can change a loosing game into a crushing victory.
Kolaghan's Command at this point can also resurrect a fallen demon like
Spellskite for protection or the powerful succubus
Sower of Temptation, which can turn the tide of many games by itself.
Late game, almost any control spell can be used as a win condition: steal your opponent's win con with
Sower of Temptation or
Treachery and turn it against him; use
Devil's Play (and its flashback) to burn down the opponent; achieve
Ob Nixilis Reignited's ultimate and wait for your opponent's agonizing demise; cast
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker (i.e. win); or wish for an EPIC WIN with
Burning Wish or
Cunning Wish (fetch kill cards like
Cruel Ultimatum,
Searing Wind,
Rise of the Dark Realms, etc.)
The deck can explode with
Time Spiral: combined with Ravnica's bouncelands (
Rakdos Carnarium,
Izzet Boilerworks and
Dimir Aqueduct), untapping 6 lands actually produces extra mana. Followed by other
Time Spirals or a few
Treacherys, mana ramps significantly. With extra mana and a full hand, victory should be yours instantly.
FLAVOR: SEDUCTION, DEMONS AND WISHES
Lotus, in D&D, is an astonishingly beautiful shapeshifting sorceress. Her uncontrollable passion and devious manipulative mind are unsurpassed except perhaps by the Tanar'ri demons she commands as Queen of Azagraat. But she is no evil-doer like the demons she rules: she has fallen, in fact, victim to a demon Lord, enslaved to rule at his side. Nothing is more precious to Lotus than freedom, and she has vowed not to regain her own, but to ensure that no other human soul throughout the multiverse would be denied freedom ever again.
Lotus is a master deceiver, using charms, illusions, poisons and lies to reach her goals, exploiting everyone around her to do her bidding, seducing even her mortal enemies into submission. She also has an explosive temper. When manipulation fails, she's well-known for her tendency to resolve frustrating matters with emotion-fueled fires of unnecessary proportions... She also possesses uncanny speed and reflexes, able to react in the blink of an eye when attacked, diverting blasts and spells with her magic. Her greatest power resides in her ability to alter reality with emotions: Lotus is a Wishmaster, that is, a being with the power to turn desire into reality, making any wish come true...
Spellskite = Hordlings. Lotus summons demons. Among her favorite demon pets are the pathetic Hordlings, small inoffensive disgusting creatures that will passionately express their unbounded love for their mistress by giving their lives to defend her. Usually, the Hordling's tactic can be resumed by *jumping in front of Lotus* to take a blow in her place...
Sower of Temptation = Succubus. Lotus is always served by Succubus, female demons of seduction. Mostly they tend to her hair, her dress, entertaining the guests, seducing kings and emperors...
Treachery = Charm. Lotus's most commonly used spells are the Charm spells. A classic :)
Devil's Play = Meteor Shower. When deception fails, Lotus has a bad habit of throwing Meteor Showers. It calms her down.
Ob Nixilis Reignited = Malbolgia, Lotus's trusted Demon Prince advisor. Once, a lowly but ressourceful imp named Renfield met a young Lotus, and claimed to have fallen for her charms and beauty: he devoted his existence in servitude to his beloved mistress... As expected (and carefully calculated), his "love" paid off: in gratitude for his dedication, Lotus offered him power beyond even a demon's dreams, making him the planeswalking Demon Prince Malbolgia.
Burning Wish and
Cunning Wish = Minor Wish. The highest power of Lotus is her ability to make wishes come true. In battle, she is as unpredictable as her own desires, lashing out with reality-altering wish spells.
Time Spiral = Wish. Her True Wish spell has the power to alter reality beyond time, to reshape destiny accordingly to her raw emotions. Sadly, being an emotionally unbalanced drama queen, controlling her True Wish spell is harder than she'll admit...
Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker = The Demon Prince Graz'zt of Azagraat. One of the most powerful Tanar'ri demons of the Abyss, Graz'zt is Lotus's master and husband. Enslaved and condemned to rule at his side, Lotus constantly schemes to please him while secretly undermining his power, carefully ploting her revenge...
