Man was I excited to make a dragon deck, and after seeing The Ur-Dragon spoiled as one of the commander 2017 decks, I new I had to get it. The deck is really simple: Play dragons, swing wide.

Organize Your Horde Show

With such a high curve, ramp and mana rocks are very important to this deck. Not only that, being a 5 color deck comes with some drawbacks, and being able to fix our colors can also help immensely.

• Arcane Signet: A new staple for commander, this rock is really efficient.

• Chromatic Lantern not only is a mana rock, but also the best mana fixer in the game.

• Fellwar Stone works well in 4+ player games, often giving you all the colors you need.

• Dragon's Hoard: A mana rock that can draw some cards sounds pretty cool to me.

• Sol Ring is a classic staple of commander decks.

• Farseek can grab shocks and triomes.

• Skyshroud Claim can grab any forests, including Triomes and Shocks. If you need them into play untapped, you can grab a couple shocks.

• Tempt with Discovery: Chances are people are going to be tempted. This is a good way to grab some some of the utility lands.

• Mirari's Wake: Wake is another commander staple and a very strong card. If you can untap after resolving it, you're going to have an explosive turn.

• Sarkhan Unbroken: Sarkhan draws a card and gives us one mana.

• Beledros Witherbloom: Double the mana per turn, for the low cost of 10 life. Lets you make a big play the turn you play him. Fills up the board with chump blockers.

• Bloom Tender: A real bomb in multicolor decks, this elf can tap for anywhere from {G} to {W}{U}{B}{R}{G} .

• Faeburrow Elder: Faeburrow is very similar to Bloom Tender, for one extra mana we add in one more power/toughness, vigilance, and one extra color (possible increasing the mana he taps for).

Calling the Skylords Show

Getting the aid of dragons isn't cheap. That's why we have some handy ways to make summoning them easier and to convince them to help me out.

• The Ur-Dragon: Our commander constantly discounts our dragons by {1}. Not only that, but when he hits the board he can cheat any permanent into play.

• Dragonlord's Servant Down, down, to goblin town. With this guy out, our dragons get discounted for a full {2}.

• Dragonspeaker Shaman: An oldie, but a goody. Discounts dragons by an additional {2} .

• Sarkhan Unbroken: Sarkhan's Ultimate lets us cheat every dragon from our deck into play.

• Belbe's Portal: Name dragons and go to town.

• Fist of Suns: Play any spell for {W}{U}{B}{R}{G} ! Turn five Ur-Dragon sounds like a win for me.

• Herald's Horn: Another dragon discount, with a nice little conditional card draw tacked on.

• Urza's Incubator: Probably the strongest discount card in the deck: Just invest 3 mana and all dragons (even opponent's, which may be an issue in some pods) have their costs reduced by 2.

• Selvala's Stampede: This baby can drop bombs. In a four player game you'll probably get one from the top and three into play from your hand, so make sure to stock up on fatties first.

• Tooth and Nail: A classic combo piece, though it's used to stomp in this deck. Entwined it can pull any two creatures from your deck, but just casting it to drop two dragons into play can be just as good.

• Wild Pair: Many dragons have similar stats, so Wild Pair can double up on almost all of our dragon casts.

Scales of Iron Show

With an aggressive deck that wants to swing out, we need to protect our draconic assets. The creatures are in this deck can be quite scary and draw a target, so we want to keep them safe.

• Lightning Greaves: The classic protection equipment. Not only can we give haste to the important creatures, but it keeps Swords to Plowshares at bay.

• Asceticism: Not only does it grant hexproof, but asceticism also lets us regenerate our beaters in the event of removal or a board wipe.

• Rhythm of the Wild protects our creatures from counterspells, and can either pump them or give haste.

• Yavimaya Hollow: Another source of regeneration. Being on a land means many times opponents will forget about it and may waste removal or swing in thinking you won't block.

• Dragonlord Dromoka: Essentially an uncounterable Grand Abolisher in dragon form.

• Scalelord Reckoner: Like a Karmic Justice, but for dragons! This will insensitive targeted removal, or allow us to blow up the lands of people who dare defy us.

Keen Claws Show

As with any commander deck, removal is important for us. While smashing someone with giant dragons can be an effective strategy, sometimes players can get out pesky permanents that will slow us down or even grind us to a halt. Thankfully, being a 5-color deck gives us access to the best removal cards printed.

• Crux of Fate: One-sided board wipes are always welcome.

• Decimate: For when you want to blow up ALL the things.

• Earthquake: Hits players, and more importantly, ground-based creatures.

• Ruinous Ultimatum: The ultimate power move. Clears the way for victory.

• Anguished Unmaking: Exile can be very important in several circumstances, and being able to hit any non-land is really useful.

• Beast Within can kill anything, and the creature it gives them will be nothing compared to the dragons we have at our disposal.

• Dragonlord Silumgar: Why remove the problem, when you can turn it to your advantage?

• Silumgar, the Drifting Death: Silumgar can turn your swing into a one-sided Toxic Deluge.
