Brago Control, because a friend made the mistake of saying "You should try playing blue".

DISCLAIMER:

This deck will not be fun, or amusing for your opponents. They will be salty and you will lose friends.

Aside from that, this deck is insanely fun to pilot (as are all control decks). The reason this deck is so good isn't just because the commanders is great and it has a lot of synergy. It's great because it's very resilient, and can easily turn a bad game around in a turn or two. Brago gets Nevermore 'd all the time, but Oblivion Ring effects work overtime, knocking out the Nevermore, and then jump over to something more relevant once brago's on the field. Akroma's Vengeance saves the day when we get off to a bad start. Board clear followed by brago usually wraps games up in tidy fashion.

Note: This deck doesn't run infinite combos, or autowins. Though it's already mean and unfun to play against, I don't have fun with such an anticlimactic victory. I like to win the honest way... By locking down the opponent to the point where they have no chance to come back.

  • Angel of Finality: Recurring graveyard exile. Not relevant against all decks, but good enough to stay.
  • Archaeomancer: Breaks all of our instants. Is good 1 time, better every turn.
  • Augury Owl: Scry 3 every turn? Who needs Prognostic Sphinx ?
  • Chancellor of the Spires: Casts a spell in an opponents graveyard each time he enters, without exiling it. Typically that's good enough on it's own, but if there aren't good targets, a 5/7 flyer with psuedo-vigilance is still pretty nice.
  • Cloudgoat Ranger : Gets extra 3 bodies upon entering the battlefield, and utilizes them to beef himself. Pretty strong win condition.
  • Deadeye Navigator: This is basically a substitute Brago, or additional ETB effects each turn. Also provides a sort of evasion for my guys.
  • Diluvian Primordial: Similar to Chancellor of the Spires, but hits each opponent (Hilarious in multiplayer) and exiles the spell which can be better or worse depending on the situation.
  • Duplicant: Exile a creature on ETB, + gets boosts which makes him a potential beater, too.
  • Karmic Guide: White reanimate is already strong, but as an ETB? I'll pay 5 on each upkeep for that... unless I have Reveillark on the battlefield ;)
  • Knight of the White Orchid: Oh that value! Helps me catch up to ramp decks, or recover from an early stumble of missed land drops. Plus, the land hits untapped? AMAZING.
  • Lavinia of the Tenth : This card is a powerhouse. Singlehandedly (with Brago or Deadeye) shuts down elves, equipments, goblins, beaters, and so much more! Plus, protection from Red can be surprisingly relevant!
  • Luminate Primordial: Swords to Plowshares Each opponent? Okay. Every turn!?? Yes please!
  • Mistmeadow Witch: Similar to Deadeye Navigator, but comes down earlier, and can hit opponents stuff which can be relevant to shove a potential blocker out of the way.
  • Mnemonic Wall: Does the same thing as Archeomancer. Redundancy is nice.
  • Mulldrifter: Hahahahahahahahaha. Yeah, two cards on ETB. Get broken, and get in my deck.
  • Myr Battlesphere: Fulfills the same role as Cloudgoat Ranger in a slightly different way. Gets an additional body, and direct damage can be useful. Plus, synergies with -5 Tezzeret can be a shocking blowout.
  • Resolute Archangel: Resets my life total. When you run Brago, you get targeted in multiplayer. She helps hedge our bets.
  • Restoration Angel: Basically a more expensive Cloudshift, and with Brago, gets extra ETB triggers.
  • Reveillark: Combos with Karmic Guide, and can get back my commander... from the graveyard... Yeah, I'll let him go there, Reveillark, cast Supreme Verdict, get back Brago, Karmic Guide, and Reveillark. Deal with it.
  • Solemn Simulacrum: This guy is busted in regular decks. In this deck, he becomes a straight up land factory!
  • Stonehorn Dignitary: 1v1 against aggro? GGs. Multiplayer and one guy (that's not you) gets a rediculous board state? You just became the savior (or oppressor) of your table.
  • Sunblast Angel: If I present a window of opportunity to swing at me, it's probably just so I can wrath your board. This angel has invisible text that says "Creature's without vigilance you don't control can't attack", and everyone seems to respect that.
  • Thassa, God of the Sea: More unblockable for Brago, and a scry every turn. Plus, her devotion is easy, so a few points of beatstick is always a bonus.
  • Venser, Shaper Savant: He can be Remand or Capsize. If the situation calls for it, he can even bounce himself back to hand after a brago swing to hold up remand every turn! Such value!
  • Voidmage Husher : Kinda similar to Venser, but this guy hits planeswalker ultimates, Perilous Vault activations and any other activated ability we don't like. Plus, we get him back all day. Very nice.
  • Banishing Light: Interchangeable exile with brago. This type of effect always baits the opponent, too. Do they leave their commander under the Light in anticipation of you just blinking it somewhere else? Or do they let it go to the command zone, giving you free value with successive blinks?
  • Cloudform : A new edition to the deck, this card is significantly more busted than it looks. You get a card from the top of your deck, and Brago blinks the manifest, and cloudform, returning them both to the field. The original manifest comes back in it's unmorphed state, while the cloudform gets you an additional manifest to continue the combo.
  • Curse of Exhaustion : Seriously hinders the most prominent threat at the table. Normally, you'd be stuck with your decision, but Brago likes to redistribute your oppression wherever you see fit.
  • Detention Sphere: Another Banishing Light effect that directly ruins token strategies.
  • Journey to Nowhere: A slightly more restrictive Banishing Light effect. Only hits creatures, but I like as many of this type of card in my deck as I can.
  • Leyline of Anticipation: The control staple. Start with it in your hand, and you surprise your opponent with your plays all game. Draw into it later, and you still get a powerful effect, turning your late game ETBs into cantrips and more.
  • Oblivion Ring: More of this great effect.
  • Basalt Monolith: A big mana rock to abuse with Brago.
  • Darksteel Ingot: Indestructible Mana rock to abuse with Brago. The color is important.
  • Gilded Lotus: The best mana rock to abuse with Brago. Since he doesn't drirectly untap your lands, these guys are important for holding up spells to maintain control in the mid-game.
  • Prophetic Prism: ETB draw a card. The filtering has come in handy to surprise an opponent that doesn't think you have the correct mana to cast Counterspell
  • Prowler's Helm: More unblockable for Brago. It's restriction is almost irrelevant, since Brago's also flying.
  • Sol Ring: Allows for T2 Brago (GG), and can be abused with him. Sol Ring is a good magic card.
  • Spine of Ish Sah: Pricey, yes, but ETB destroy target permanent? That's exactly what we want to be abusing. Plus, in the event of a full board clear, it gets returned to the hand. It's the little things.
  • Swiftfoot Boots: Haste and Hexproof for Brago, or other stuff I play. I don't run Lightning Greaves Because I've found the shroud gets really awkward with Brago's ability.
  • The Chain Veil : We're 1/13th superfriends. Plus, this gets abused like crazy. It thoroughly abuses Teferi, Temporal Archmage & Tezzeret the Seeker , but just normal use is plenty.
  • Thran Dynamo : Another rock for Brago to abuse.

  • Akroma's Vengeance: Board wipes are important in any control strategy, and it hitting artifacts and enchantments in addition to creatures is fantastic. Still doesn't hit planeswalkers!
  • Rout: Instant speed board wipe? I can't even express how good this is.
  • Supreme Verdict: Cheap, uncounterable board wipe. Just a very efficient card.
  • Elspeth, Knight-Errant: Protects herself, boosts commander damage, and the ultimate is effectively a game winner.
  • Elspeth, Sun's Champion: Protects herself more, boardwipes fatties (while leaving Brago alone), and ultimates to make all of my creatures strictly better.
  • Elspeth Tirel: She's quick, protects herself, gains life, and can selectively board wipe the turn after she drops.
  • Jace, Architect of Thought : Mini Fact or Fiction, or punish weenies, and an ultimate that wins games.
  • Jace Beleren : I get to draw two extra cards each turn. That's nice.
  • Teferi, Temporal Archmage: Combos with The Chain Vale, Draws a card, and ultimates to stupidness. Exactly what we want!
  • Tezzeret the Seeker : Combos with The Chain Vale and a mana rock, finds combo pieces, and turns 16 1/1 myr tokens into 16 5/5 myr tokens.
  • Venser, the Sojourner: Brago's best friend. Blinks stuff (Usually a land to hold up a counter), just like this deck wants. Makes Brago unblockable. Oh, and when he casually ultimates, I get to exile something EVERY TIME I CAST A SPELL. Wow.
