Maybeboard

Like a lot of people, the moment I saw this gorgeous Legendary Izzet being, I had to design a deck around it. So behold: when you hear the faint hum of tiny wings buzzing...run.

EDH is most fun when you have things to do. This deck doesn't disappoint. It does everything you expect from Izzet : draw, control, burn, combo : all of which centers around the Plague Deity of Insects .

The Izzet League's Continued Janks

You must always be ingeniously innovating . This deck is focused on card draw for its win conditions, so you should always have access to anything which requires your response. The most reliable methods for a flourishing hand is through the mythical Arcanis the Omnipotent , Font of Mythos , Well of Ideas , or Thought Reflection . Through player choices (opening mulligans, Preordain , or Brainstorm ), ensure that you have for-sure access to a stable card source.

You have many ways to respond to game developments. Forgoing the explanation of the same-old control cards you can see in the deck list, fun lies in the not-so-classic control cards. Some of the more interesting ones include the multiplayer ebbing Bident of Thassa and its coercive powers to have an unprepared opponent attack a vulnerable enemy, ensuring a player's board wipe hits an Avacyn, Angel of Hope 's side through Polymorphist's Jest , or suddenly altering the damage outcome through Dictate of the Twin Gods .

In the Ravnicinian Guild Chamber

A lot of Commander gameplay decisions are based on the politics of the players. The Locust God is very apt at this, as in addition to diplomacy and board threats, his arsenal of spells contain group hug synergies. Gain a player's favor by revealing you'll spoil them with cards like Intellectual Offering or Learn from the Past (inexperienced players tend to think this is game-changing miraculous).

Additionally, if you play cautiously, you can appease all players and attempt to wipe away any crosshairs on you. Call upon Jace or Kruphix to show demonstrate your group-hug-love; set minds aglow through skyscribing ; or make everyone remember how only you can bring everyone to prosperity .. evil grin.

You have your win-con through your efforts to stay proactive: card draw. Summon the God of Locusts at the opportune time, and release your fury of endless swarms of buzzBUZZzzes. It's all that more delicious when your opponent's can't run away, but instead, are chloroformed .

In league with the card draw, however, gain threat points through Chasm Skulker 's monsterous presence, Psychosis Crawler 's/ Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind 's fury, or Jace's / Alhammarret's erasure

In the arrival of the swarm itself, Purphoros's impact tremors will make your opponent tremble in defeat.

You know the combo, and it is foolish to run The God of Locust and not run it: The Locust God + Skullclamp + Ashnod's Altar . It's best to pull this combo off when a) you have a counter spell handy and b) you have something like Sleep , Blustersquall , or C-Rift to ensure your swarm hits...
