Here's the Grixis version! Dirty Dragonfire

This is the Izzet Dragons list I've been tinkering with for months, and it's finally starting to come together! Most of the time you'll be playing more reserved, bolting and countering things until you can play a dragon with counterspell protection. Sometimes, if you know your opponent can't do anything about it, you just jam dragons down their throat until they die. You don't really have any lifegain, so winning by the skin of your teeth is also something that'll likely happen.

Anyone like lists detailing card choice? If so, I'm here for you! And below is my gift to you, whether you wanted it or not! Well, except the SB, since that depends on your meta.

Mainboard

Slumbering Dragon (flex) Here's our one-drops of the deck, they're also quite good against go-wide strategies and decks that just want to swing for a point or two at a time. They also up our Dragon Count without flooding us with more high cmc critters. Fairly easy to get around, but it's also a cheap body to sac to Lilly instead of something else.

Thunderbreak Regent Another card you probably didn't think you were going to see outside of standard, but don't underestimate the retaliation bolt, which is triggered by being targeted by spells or abilities. Counter that Dismember for maximum value.

Stormbreath Dragon Most people would rather run Thundermaw Hellkite in this slot, but personally I find the Pro-White to be immensely valuable. Doesn't die to Path, Bolt, or AD, and attacks/blocks tokens, angels, and flying piles of rocks all day.

Mirrorwing Dragon (flex) Blocks most* Goyfs, and like Regent, does NOT like being targeted by your opponent. Turning most removal spells your opponents try and use on it into one sided wraths seem like fun, really.

Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius The top of the Dragons, this 5/5 flying nightmare rips our opponents smaller creatures to shreds, gives us massive card advantage, and in general can not be allowed to live, for untapping spells the doom of the poor mage across the table. Games that he survives rarely last long.

Keranos, God of Storms Not a dragon, but he is a value machine that is very hard to interact with, on top of being able give our bolts the ability to finish off high toughness creatures.

Silumgar's Scorn It's Counterspell. If it's not counterspell, something's gone horribly awry.

Stubborn Denial (flex) Spiking someone can get there, and the only non 4 power dragon gets there relatively easily. Used to be Dispel, but hitting planeswalkers is pretty important. Also hits turn one thoughtsieze and such on the play

Draconic Roar (flex) Dragon Blaze. Do you like incidental damage in your deck with four lightning bolts and dragons that lightning bolt opponents for targeting them? I know I do.

Lightning Bolt It's a modern deck that runs mountains, all that needs to be said.

Remand Not a true counterspell, but the tempo gain is great, which is something we can take advantage of.

Echoing Truth (flex) U/R has a hard time with Enchantments and permanents that don't die to bolt, so we have this. The fact that you can bounce multiples means that it also pairs against Lingering Souls quite nicely if they overextend.

Unsubstantiate (flex Sometimes we don't want our opponent to play that card right now, so we put it back into their hand because we can, and other times there's a creature on the field giving us a headache. This temporarily takes care of both, but with no card draw is relegated to a two-of.

Reality Shift (flex) U/R has an issue getting rid of big permanents once they hit the ground, especially ones that can't be countered. This turns them into a 2/2 and doesn't trigger exile clauses. While that it sometimes bites you in the ass, but most of the time it either flips something less evil or a non-creature. Roast is a good card, but it doesn't take care of a sadly growing number of cards that see modern play. Also hits pro-red creatures, which is nice.

Anger of the Gods Turns out lots of decks in Modern like to go wide, and even more like to go wide with cards that don't like to stay dead or try and leave presents behind. So we have a sweeper that exiles to keep them honest.

Dragon Tempest (flex) It gives your dragons haste, which is good, allows you to pick off X/1's, and sometimes X/2's. The creature itself also does the damage, so it triggers Niv-Mizzet.

Cavern of Souls Having your Dragons get countered sucks, so we have this cave to keep that from happening, and for our treasure hoard.

Blood Moon is a card that will be added once I find some for a good price while I have the spare cash

Replaced cards that may come backAnticipate (flex) I've had people tell me Serum Visions is better, but after playing with both, I've found that I like having the card selection and instant speed over the smaller cost. Using it to dig for a counterspell is generally a desperate move, but it's saved my hide more than once.
