Lifecrafting in the Foundry

Standard Artifact Budget GU (Simic)

This deck is build around Lifecrafter's Bestiary and the insane card advantage it can give. Here's a rundown on the cards and their interactions

  • Lifecrafter's Bestiary: The lifeblood of the deck. You want to get one of these on board as soon as possible. Once you get one out, every single one of your creatures comes with Kicker : Draw a Card. Once you have enough mana, you will be drawing tons of cards. The Scry 1 during your upkeep is just icing on the cake, but it helps ensure you don't flood out and keep drawing creatures.

  • Trophy Mage: Tutor up the card advantage machine, either of the Foundry creatures, or Aethersphere Harvester. She makes sure the pieces come together.

  • Glint-Nest Crane: More tutoring for all of your artifacts. Also is a nice blocker and/or flyer.

  • Ornithopter: This guy is amazing with the Bestiary: pay to draw a card and get a flying chump blocker that turns into a flying threat later? Sounds like a good deal to me!

  • Hedron Crawler , Druid of the Cowl, Servant of the Conduit: All of these creatures give you the one thing the deck struggles with: mana. They're not even that bad late game, since they trigger the Bestiary and draw another card.

  • Foundry Inspector: Save you more mana on all of your artifacts and is tutorable by Trophy Mage.

  • Chief of the Foundry: Makes all of the wimpy artifact creatures bigger and is also tutorable by Trophy Mage.

  • Ridgescale Tusker: The budget Verdurous Gearhulk. The tusker is still a nice finisher by adding counters to all of your creatures. I had Cultivator of Blades in this spot before, but it felt too fragile. I would love to pick up some Verdurous Gearhulks for this deck though.

  • Heroic Intervention: Just Say No to that removal spell/boardwipe. Kind of a catch-all protection for your army. Thinking about cutting it though since I don't normally have the mana open to cast it.

  • Metallic Rebuke: A countermagic that can use artifacts that would normally just sit there to pay. Also unsure about this.

  • Aethersphere Harvester: Just a one-of, but it's tutorable by Trophy Mage. The lifegain is relevant in more aggressive matchups and a 3/5 flyer is nothing to sneeze at. This could also be Filigree Familiar .

I'm still working on the sideboard. Currently, I feel this deck's biggest weakness is how slow it is; you're not really doing anything powerful until turn 4. At the same time, it can't really function as a control or midrange deck since you need to play a lot of creatures for Lifecrafter's Bestiary to be powerful. I'd love suggestions on how to solve this!
