Phantasmal Image! —Nov. 12, 2012

The main thing this deck wants to do is not lose before turn five.

I'm thinking post sideboard of turning more into a mill-discard control deck. I'm liking Cinderhaze Wretch, Wickerbough Elder for discard and specialized defense, and Thoughtseize, Surgical Extraction and Snapcaster Mage for threat removal. Phantasmal Image helps me mirror what they're doing that's dangerous, or copy a Hedron Crab for fast milling, making my surgical extractions even stronger.

What do you guys think?

Interesting concept!

Why not any large beaters w/ a higher CMC? You're running Birthing Pod , thus could use a Griselbrand , Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite , etc.

This deck is purely devoted to combo. It does chain to Grim Poppet but my four-drop wins me the game.

Thornling is a useful beater who gives some inevitability though.

Right, but don't rely solely on Necrotic Ooze to finish the game. You've already posted some weaknesses. Some other card hosers for your deck are Surgical Extraction , Slaughter Games , Haunting Echoes , Rest in Peace , Detention Sphere , Angel of Serenity , and others. Don't get me wrong, I love what you're doing here and encourage you to continue doing so. What I am saying is that a few big baddies like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite , Griselbrand , and others wouldn't be a bad idea. ESPECIALLY with Unburial Rites .

This is probably true. I have some wiggle room as a few of the slots are filler still and it would be nice to have a plan B. I still would get hosed by graveyard hate but they'd have to be more selective.

Thanks, it's nice to have that outside perspective. Sometimes you get so focused on a game plan and forget the plan is to win, not win "this way"

For sure man, no problem. Again, quite creative and Johnny of you; I dig it! Just trying to be helpful.

When I make a deck, I usually have more than 1 win-con and/or back up plans.

Thanks. I like how the Quillspike +Devoted Druid combo grew into something bigger.

If you are sending stuff to the grave a lot with your Birthing Pod s, Sheoldred, Whispering One would be a useful fatty for re-establishing board position, wrecking theirs and setting up more Pod fodder. It may be a tad unsynergistic with Necrotic Ooze though.

Best reanimation targets in Modern are the same in Legacy: Griselbrand and Iona, Shield of Emeria

@ pookypuppy6

I did have Sheoldred in here for awhile, but you're right it doesn't synergize with the Ooze very well. Birthing Pod fodder is always good though.

@mafteechr

Griselbrand and Iona are both good, I'm hoping to be able to hardcast the guy if I had to though.

I'm looking at something simple like Stormtide Leviathan or Inkwell Leviathan
