Here's my first stab at the new Lazav! I had been wanting to play a cheap costing commander and got Lazav in my dimir guild pack at a pre-release, it was like the universe was gently tapping me on the shoulder, telling me "play lazav, you like blue black graveyard shennanigans, it's two mana and hot damn look at that art!"

I went home and started to see where others were taking Lazav. Lazav's ability opens up a lot of weirdness and cool interactions that aren't normally seen so I definitely felt out of my element.

It quickly appeared that people were trying to bust lazav through infinite combos that kill everyone on the spot, infect damage taking people out 1 by 1 or using him as a 'super' utility creature that can become an assortment of different cards in your graveyard.

I have decided to go the combo and infect route! Something about hitting someone with a 12/12 infect trample just seems too fun to pass up.

The deck has a lot of tutors and cards to sculpt your hand so my hope is I can adapt this deck to different power levels. If I am playing in a more cutthroat pod I can try and go for an infinite combo that kills everyone on the spot (hopefully) or if I am playing against more relaxed opponents I can try and go for one of the more janky kills that only take out one player at a time.

Important Note: Yes I am using Sage of Hours right now instead of Walking Ballista. I am sure a lot of people think that's wrong but for my list I think Sage generally will work better. The problem I have with Ballista is that often I don't have enough cards in my deck to actually shoot everyones life total down. Sometimes I am casting Lazav the turn I am trying to win with a Necrotic ooze combo which makes swinging at someone for lethal and shooting down the other 2 players less optimal. With Necrotic Ooze I think devourer and sage is just a more consistent kill where the main draw to ballista is being easier to pull off but not as reliable to actually close out the game. I could up the overall CMC of the deck but I think that would just make the deck more clunky which kind of defeats the purpose of having ballista in the deck as an easier to assemble combo. Or should I run both? Let me know your thoughts if you have an opinion one way or the other. Ill also add that in my actual testing and games I've killed with Nooze/Devourer/Sage combo where Ballista would've fallen short.
