Getting There... —Sept. 13, 2012

after a visit to my local card shop, I have revised the deck. I have removed the niv-mizzet combo completely and added +4 Silence. I played a game aginst an opponent right after that and got the Isochron Scepter and Silence in my opening hand. Turn two, he was locked down for the next five turns until I comboed out. XD. I traded for two Meddling Mages right after that and decided to switch out Spell Pierce for the less conditional Negate. The store didn't have enough Intruder Alarms, so I had to improvise. The shop owner suggested Lightning Helix, but after dropping $20 for the Path to Exiles and $20 for stuff for another deck, I am a little hesitant to spend much more.

i am definitely thinking of getting at least one more scepter. I want to see the look on their face when i imprint a Mana Leak on it. :-P

My friend does Vapor Snag all the time. It's sooooo annoying.

I was thinking the Warstorm Surge for the Elemental Mastery tokens. Granted, the mastery + midnight guard will probably win you the game, but what if they drop a Fog or a Chain Reaction ?

Nevermind about the Chain Reaction , didn't remember it was a sorcery. But the Mana Leak + Isochron Scepter is mean, I'll vouch for it.

Consecrated Sphinx ? Since you have the draw going on, nice little combo there.

yea the scepter is mean, even with Mystic Speculation Consecrated Sphinx would work, but i'd have to find space for it. Thanks for the feedback and ideas! +1 if you like the deck.

Perhaps find room for Silence to add an extra combo element with Isochron Scepter . Don't have to Mana Leak if they can't cast spells ;)

Remand instead of Spell Pierce maybe? it's a good counterspell beacause it slows the ennemie so you can get to your combo and it's a cantrip that can be put under Isochron Scepter .

I'm not sure about the Midnight Guard thoe. What does he bring for you? I think 4 Snapcaster Mage are more appropriate.

Also, for your mana base, you could try some Ravnica dual lands or at least put some more islands to cast everything you want without much trouble.

The Midnight Guard goes with Elemental Mastery . Infinite combo/creatures. Snapcasters would be complete crap imo in this deck.

The Silence + Isochron Scepter is beastly, as well. If you can get 2 of them out, your opponent is completely shut down.

But I do feel like you need more draw...

The Midnight Guard should just be Deceiver Exarch and Pestermite , to be honest.

It's clear your trying to not be Splinter Twin , but the reason why those two creatures are important to the infinite combo is because they have flash, thus if they tap out, you play the creature at the end of their turn, then win on your turn.

Oh wait, Elemental Mastery sucks, my bad.

To have a creature with flash that works with Elemental Mastery you could run Village Bell-Ringer . I agree a flash creep would be better (and you don't need the extra 1 power anyway, since you combo off when it hits the board)

oh doh no it doesn't. Sorry. Better just run Splinter Twin then =D

Okay, time to end this argument. Silence is a definite addition to the deck. Remand i will most likely add. Splinter Twin is better and cooler, yes, but I am on a strict budget right now, and most people know I tend to make decks that no one else does. And besides, at the card shop where I play, one of the players already has a Splinter Twin deck, and he's kind of a jerk, so I would prefer not to get in a pissing contest with him. It sounds stupid, i know, but you don't know this guy.

Idyllic Tutor could help you find Elemental Mastery . Silence is golden. I think the niv-curiosity combo is too slow and you should add Intruder Alarm to help the inf' 1/1 combo.

Haha, yeah about that Splinter Twin ; I know the feeling. There's a guy at my local shop who plays a similar Storm deck to mine. Now usually, I like / don't mind that sort of thing, cause you can browse through eachother's decks and go 'ah I hadn't thought of that' or 'why are you running this?'. This guy is more of a "But in my deck, I run..." and usually I just think to myself 'yeah yeah, good for you, Magic Master Man... Now let's just play a fun game...' ;)

I was thinking tho, how does your manabase work out for you? You're running a couple more red/white sources than you need I think, and Terramorphic Expanse is always a 'tapped land'. I think you could get away with running 2 plains and mountains (two of each), turning the rest into (ideally) dualllands, or perhaps just some islands. 2 basics and a couple of nonbasics should be enough to cast your non-blue spells off of, while your blue spells are way more early game. (delver, spell pierce, leak, speculation)

I know you're on a budget, but I'd try picking up some duals (Sulfur Falls , perhaps even Shivan Reef s, and with Return to Ravnica coming out there will be new printings of Steam Vents and Hallowed Fountain ))

cooknathan- The only reason I have the niv combo is for late-game, if they beat my early combo. Idyllic Tutor could work. Silence may be hard, its proving hard to find and i'll see if i can find the alarm. But, if I can, any creature could fit on the elemental mastery, and this could be a whole 'nother deck!

JasonD-that dude you are describing is EXACTLY how this dude is! if you happen to mention what cards any of your decks run, you get a five-minute lecture on how his decks are in every way superior. I'll have to see about the dual lands, and so far i've only tested the deck a couple times so i'm not sure about the manabase yet, I'll get back to you on that one. Thanks for the feedback.
