Sorcery (2)

Artifact (3)

Do you want to be a gimmicky asshole, run a Mindslaver deck like no other, and watch an opponent helplessly kill themselves and their entire board? All while having a creatureless deck that is barely over $100?

Welcome to Lands Excavation.

Note: There has been a very small update, moving Witchbane Orbs to mainboard and leaving 4 slots open in the side for whatever you need for your environment. Also, version 2 has been made! Go here to check it out --> Lands Excavation v2

Tron and Expedition Map

Yeah, we run a few colored spells, but Mindslaver takes precedence over them. We preferably want to cast and slave our opponent on the same turn so they can't respond at sorcery speed. Of course Tron can be taken out in budget-tight situations to put in more basics or dual lands, but this is the fastest way to success.

The Burn Package

We don't have creatures because that'd be easy; who wants to beat people to death when you can laugh while they kill themselves? Lightning Bolt and Electrolyze are our spot removal while Anger of the Gods and Pyroclasm are the big sweepers.

Excavating Ourselves

For a combo based deck to work we need pieces, and we are admittedly digging for a bit here. Ponder and even the odd Electrolyze are going to dig as far as we can while staying in the game. Mind Spring can serve as a finisher all on its own depending on how much it draws.

The Combo

We've survived, got a Mindslaver and our two enchantments onto the board. If they have nonland permanents on the board, we'll probably need a Chain of Vapor in hand, but depending on how low they are either from Mindswipe or just doing their thing, we may not.

We crack Mindslaver , say "pass turn" then laugh like a maniac because it's all worth it now.

First thing's first: do they have cards in hand? Good, they won't be needing them anymore. Land's Edge their entire hand away and make them burn themselves. Do they have a low enough life total and a lot of delicious, untapped lands? They won't be needing those, either. Using our Excavation , we tap each of their lands and use that mana to sac them: Every. Single. One. They don't need the cards they just drew either, so turn it into burn and annihilate their face while they watch their board crumble away.

But what if they wouldn't be low enough? Well, we can use Chain of Vapor , bouncing one of their cards back to their hand, making them sac a land to do it to themselves again and again until all that Land's Edge fuel is off the battlefield. Sac the remaining lands to Excavation and burn them out.

After Combo??

They didn't concede and are still alive? How much would it take to kill them? You're going to have to play very aggressively with your burn to get those last few points in. Hit them with everything you can. You can even Mind Spring and use it to Land's Edge them by pitching your hand.

The Poor Man's Solution

Witchbane Orb : Because Leyline of Sanctity is way too expensive to be anywhere near budget in the quantity we need, this is the well-known alternative.

Crumble to Dust : We don't like people playing Tron against us. They could play good things like Wurmcoil Engine or Karn Liberated , so we want to stop that train wreck of a game before it starts. Plus, it stops things like Field of Ruin or Academy Ruins from being a problem.

Negate and Red Elemental Blast : Things from the get go can suck when it's all being countered, and playing straight into counters, planeswalkers, or removal doesn't aid our game plan. If we are really scared of counters in general or anything that blue can do that scares us, then we can add in a few of these to give our plays a bit more backing.

Tormod's Crypt : Dredge, Goyf, Living End, and a myriad of other scary things can appear and make short work of us. Unfortunately, Crypt is the best we have in terms of budget, but it can still put in some serious work, especially post-combo if they're somehow still alive.

A Proper Mana Base

Getting Scalding Tarn , Steam Vents , and the last 3 pieces of Tron would improve the decks consistency. Even something as simple as Shivan Reef could help with all the mana symbols.

Bigger, Better CounterBurn

Cards like Remand would keep cards in their hand for Land's Edge and get us through our own deck. More Anger of the Gods over that poor Pyroclasm and even things like Force of Will can give us more control over what our opponent is doing.

An Actual Sideboard

Leyline of Sanctity , Leyline of the Void and copies of Shatterstorm . And though Blood Moon turns off our tron lands, having someone else tron into a Karn Liberated is much worse than getting a slower Mindslaver . Fulminator Mage against infect and colonnade. Skullcrack against decks that are trying to gain more life than we can burn away.
