Kykar! Follow your nose, folks, because marks the spot and the spirits will guide us there! This is my take on a more off-beat Kykar, Wind's Fury build that wants to build towards a big splashy X-spell finisher, and copy said finisher as many times as it can! Along the way to our wave-making, world-burning game-ender, we have lots of ways to take advantage of our spirits, generate extra ones, and keep ourselves ticking and building towards a cataclysmic multi-bomb to close out the game in a firestorm!

So lets start by talking about these spirits. Kykar creates one every time we cast a non-creature spell, and we can cash them in for . The obvious play-line in this deck is to generate as many of them as we can so we can cash them all in at once for a huge X-spell, but we've got some value tricks to help us out on our way to our doomsday plot. Mentor of the Meek is a favorite, because it lets you cash-in the token created by a non-creature spell before that spell even resolves! Kykar's ability triggers and creates the spirit before the spell creating the spirit resolves (though after any targets that spell has are selected), so you can immediately burn it for an extra card for your trouble. Anointed Procession is another slam-dunk, getting us two for our trouble, and allowing us to reach that critical X-mana twice as fast. Spirit Bonds and Twilight Drover let us cycle through spirits to either protect our board, or let us convert land-based mana into more spirits, essentially banking mana for use on another turn. ...oh, and of course, we're running Skullclamp to churn through our deck with our spirits to get the things we're building towards.

But what are we building towards? Big splashy X spells, of course! Banefire and Comet Storm and Fault Line , oh my! These fun burn spells let us cook our opponents with humongous damage, boosted by however many spirits we've managed to bank thus far, but why stop there? We're also running Electrodominance so we can burn AND drop the best thing out of our hand right onto the table, Expansion / Explosion so we can blast someone AND draw into more gas to keep going, and Jaya's Immolating Inferno to show the entire table who's boss simultaneously. But what if I told you this was only the beginning?

That's right, casting a huge X spell isn't nearly enough. The REAL key here is to copy these X spells as many times as we can using cards like Swarm Intelligence , Dual Casting , Thousand-Year Storm , and its ilk. Not only does this help us hit multiple targets with one big X cost, but it also helps us reduce the amount of mana and spirits we actually need for a lot of these spells! Why cast Jaya's Immolating Inferno where X=40 when we can just cast it for X=10, have Swarm Intelligence copy it, and then Reverberate it twice? Have you considered copying Bonus Round into Brass's Bounty into Banefire ? The delicious combo possibilities are all over the place, with all sorts of pieces that can lock into each other in flexible ways to help you make the biggest, splashiest play you can!

Now, obviously, this isn't the most powerful or competetive Kykar build out there (that'd probably be a storm list). Its more of a casual, goofy build that's trying to do something ridiculous, regardless of if it actually winds up winning the game. That said, there are a few flex slots in the deck that you could swap things in place of if you want to make the deck run more consistently/tango with a more powerful meta. While these cards are first on my personal chopping block, there's some interesting utility here, so I'll talk about them below to try and justify their inclusion. Of course, cards like Enlightened Tutor and Mystical Tutor would be more powerful choices, and if your meta really needs you to run cards like these to stay competitive, then go for it!

Soulfire Grand Master is an interesting flex because it gives our big spells lifelink and the ability to save them to cast on another turn if we can't quite seal the deal on this one, hopefully putting us out of reach from a crackback. Taigam, Ojutai Master protects our huge X spells from being stopped by control opponents while giving everything rebound! The rebound is a no-go with our important X spells, but it can keep our other valuable instants and sorceries going and create some extra spirits for free if we attack with him. Jaya Ballard both helps us cast our big spells AND helps us find them, and all the spirits we'll be generating with Kykar will help us protect her, making that ultimate ability much less of a pipe-dream than planeswalker ultimates tend to be.

Whew, and that's that! This is still a first draft of the deck that I'm hoping to play soon! Let me know if you've got any advice for making this deck a streamlined fire-bombing machine, and I hope you enjoyed the list!
