Maybeboard

Kruphix leads a band of scary sea monsters in this ocean themed budget deck. I wanted to make a theme deck that is also functional, that's why I decided to use Kruphix, God of Horizons instead of Thassa, God of the Sea. Kruphix allows the deck to include green ramp. Without ramp it would take many turns or Quest for Ula's Temple to get any of the big threats out.

Categories

Sea Monsters are the serpents, leviathans, octopuses and krakens of the deck. They synergize with Whelming Wave and Quest for Ula's Temple. Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle is included even though it doesn't fit the price range because it is a new, interesting and theme fitting creature. Anything on the maybeboard could replace him to reduce the cost of the deck.
This section includes the instants and sorceries that remove creatures. They were originally in the Utility section, but I decided to separate them because there are so many. Vortex Elemental and Harbinger of the Tides are also in this section even though they aren't instants and sorceries because they don't belong in Sea Mommsters.
The board wipes in this deck are very theme-fitting. Whelming Wave is one of the big reasons decks like these exist. Slin Voda, the Rising Deep would also count towards the amount of board wipes in the deck.
This is the boring section. I included more basic islands to benefit cards such as Serpent of the Endless Sea and Engulf the Shore. Cascading Cataracts and Unknown Shores Are two perfect on theme color fixers.
Ramp is the least theme fitting of the 4 categories. This is because much of the good green ramp doesn't fit the ocean theme. It's still in the deck because it facilitates playing big fish.Iceberg is a fun inclusion in this deck. It is an uncommon card that acts as inefficient mana storage. If you have both Kruphix and Iceberg, you can save 1/3 of your colorless if Kruphix is removed by putting it into the Iceberg.
Draw cards. Azure Mage and Mystic Remora are both good on-theme mana sink for drawing cards.
Utility includes the removal, counterspells and combat tricks. The only card that doesn't fit the theme is Naturalize. I wanted to have at least one answer for enchantments, so I included it.

Maybeboard Considerations

Drag Under vs Griptide vs Harbinger of the Tides vs Into the Roil vs Voyage's End vs Whirlpool Whelm. Bouncing creatures to their owner's hand and/or library is a common effect among ocean themed cards. I chose to include the single-target bounce spells with cheaper mana-costs. Of those, Into the Roil and Voyage's End seem to me to be the worst. I chose Drag Under even though it is a direct downgrade of Crashing Tide because it is more on theme, and the deck only includes two merfolk. I haven't done enough testing to find out effectiveness of these choices and would love to hear feedback about this.
Coral Barrier vs Kraken Hatchling vs Spiny Starfish vs Guard Gomazoa. Ocean walls are defensive creatures included to slow down aggressive decks and make time to get the Big Fish online. Coral Barrier and Spiny Starfish are useful to make multiple blockers to help stop multiple creatures. Kraken Hatchling is cheap and doesn't get affected by Whelming Wave and Slinn Voda, the Rising Deep. Guard Gomazoa is probably the best overall, but it's slightly off theme. It's a jellyfish, flying above the ocean, but it doesn't live in the ocean.

Thanks for viewing my deck! I'd love to hear any feedback and suggestions.
