THEIR LIVES FOR THE GREATER GOOD

Kresh build I made myself, I thought it would be fun. This deck is centered around creating tokens and sacrificing those tokens for value. There aren't many up-to-date Kresh decks around, let alone token centric ones, so I wanted to try my hand at it as this is the first deck I made from scratch. This is also my first primer, so let me know what changes I could make to make this better!

Despite what the competitive meter says, I would not consider this a "competitive" deck. This is a deck made for fun and value. If you want play a more competitive deck, look at Prossh, Skyraider of Kher decks.

This deck isn't about speed, it takes a bit for it to get going. The goal of this deck is for Kresh the Bloodbraided to eat all your creatures and get BIG AND STRONG. Oh, and if other creatures offer themselves up to him, who is he to deny their generous offering? While this deck is centered around killing tokens for value and making Kresh huge for swinging face, you don't need to bring him out right away. You want to build a decent board first, then bring out Kresh.

An ideal hand would have 2-3 lands, ramp, token generator, a way to increase token output, and a sac outlet.

There are a ton of ways to create tokens in this deck and ways to double them. There are also a ton of ways to sacrifice them to draw cards, generate mana, destroy other creatures, or straight up deal damage to your opponents.

The board wipes in this deck ensure that Kresh can survive and reap all the benefits of everything dying around him.

Updates Add

I have made more changes to this deck, and hopefully it helps with the speed of building up a board state earlier!

  • Mana Crypt replacing Talisman of Resilience More often than not, I found myself looking at this card and thinking "Isn't there another card I can play instead?". I bit the bullet and bought myself a Mana Crypt to replace it. More mana, much faster and it opened up another 3cmc slot for my other replacements. The biggest improvement with speed for sure.

  • Grismold, the Dreadsower replacing Tana, the Bloodsower I loved Tana as a card, but I could never swing with her early, and by the time I got to her, other players already had a board state that made it impossible for her to get through. Grismold generates tokens passively very early, and has a counter mechanic when ANY tokens die. A great fit for a deck like this!

  • Gift of Doom replacing Yahenni, Undying Partisan I also loved Yahenni. A sacrifice outlet with a counter mechanic, I had a hard time making this decision. But giving protection at instant speed to Kresh just by sacrificing a creature? Too good to pass up. I have a lot of sacrifice outlets built into this deck already, so losing one isn't a big deal, even though this can sacrifice a single creature as well. You will never have to cast this card for it's full cmc!

  • Garruk, Apex Predator replacing Moldervine Reclamation I finally decided which Garruk planeswalker to add! He's a huge mana cost, but he was just too cool not to add in. His abilities are pretty good too I guess... He's a strong addition to this deck, despite his high cmc. Removal, deathtouch token generation, and his ultimate are all great!

  • City of Brass Mana Confluence and Reflecting Pool replacing basic lands. More color is never bad!

  • Cabal Coffers replacing a basic land. Another huge improvement in the mana department. I have a lot of high cmc cards in this deck, so I figured more big mana will help cast these big spells I have and I can keep my turn going rather than using one big spell and passing it over to the next person.
