Introduction Show

According to all known laws of aviation,

...just kidding. I gave the deck an overhaul. The playstyle is still pretty straightforward, but definitely different. This time, there is a bit of an early pressure with the capable Bond Beetle as well as Clockwork Beetle, and I switched Hornet Queen into a late-game powerhouse and added Giant Adephage. Additionally, the land composition has been changed to make ramping easier and to manage the white splash mana better. Also it's much less boring.

Early Game Show

Early game pressure comes from a couple cards I've mentioned in the introduction, Bond Beetle and Clockwork Beetle. Clockwork Beetle is a 1-drop 2/2 that becomes weaker as it attacks/defends, but we don't really need 1-drops for too long, do we? Bond Beetle can either serve as a 1-drop 1/2 creature or power up Clockwork Beetle to give it an extra use and bring it up to 3/3. To get a little more use out of these two guys, I also included Invasive Species, which can either return Clockwork Beetle to hand and drop it again as a 2/2 or get another use out of Bond Beetle. You can cheese your way through by tapping Avacyn's Pilgrim to cast Invasive Species, returning Avacyn's Pilgrim to your hand, and then simply casting Avacyn's Pilgrim again if you have the mana so your mana ramping isn't disrupted. Your goal should be to get Anointed Procession onto the battlefield as quickly as you can so that when your token creatures drop, they become insanely pesky.

Key Combo Show

Elvish Piper into Hornet Queen + Anointed Procession + Cloudshift = 2 CMC (if Anointed Procession is already on the board) 1 2/2 creature with flying and deathtouch, and 16(!) 1/1 tokens with flying and deathtouch. Additionally, if used with It of the Horrid Swarm, you get a 4/4 creature with 4 1/1 creature tokens instead of the 2/2 deathtouch flying creature for 5CMC total. Which is like a lot. And then you get to wreck them with Hour of Reckoning if you want. If they have damage boardwipes, you can try to brute force your way through with Giant Adephage instead of Hornet Queen, which also multiplies super fast when coupled with Anointed Procession.

Gameplay Show

Ramp up early, get Anointed Procession out, early pressure with Clockwork Beetle, Bond Beetle, and Invasive Species combo. Protect your creatures with Swarmyard, which is super annoying, and set up Hornet Nest which synergises nicely with Swarmyard. Next, get out Elvish Piper to set up for big creatures like Hornet Queen or Giant Adephage, wipe board with Hour of Reckoning when you have enough tokens for the next turn but need to wipe the board first, then swing away to victory.

Invasive Species Show

Invasive Species has many uses in the deck beyond merely making the early game easier by giving Bond Beetle and Clockwork Beetle more uses. If you have one just happily squirming around in your hand later into the game, you can return Hornet Queen or It of the Horrid Swarm to your hand and get them back out with Elvish Piper for more tokens.
