Recently, I tried to condense two of my decks, Darien's Special Forces and Two Commanders in One, into one, Darien's Tax Collectors. This ended up creating too little focus, and it was pointed out that there were too few soldiers in the soldier deck. This deck is my newest attempt, trying to push for greater balance, lower mana curve, and better focus on the central themes.

The major themes for Darien, King of Kjeldor are soldier tribal (including 24 creatures and 10 token producers), and Darien's ability to make soldier tokens when you take damage. There is a minor human tribal subtheme (including 21 creatures), mostly because a lot of soldiers and other resources are also human.

Ballyrush Banneret and Daru Warchief make your soldiers cheaper. Archetype of Courage, Captain of the Watch, Daru Warchief, Oathsworn Giant, Caged Sun, Spear of Heliod, Marshal's Anthem, and Vanquisher's Banner buff your soldiers.

Catapult Master and Devout Chaplain let your soldiers and humans respectively turn into removal. Knight-Captain of Eos turns every soldier into a Fog spell.

One of the downsides of Darien's ability is that people become hesitant to do small amounts of damage that risk giving your more soldiers. Because of this, I've included cards like Grand Coliseum, Nomad Stadium, Tarnished Citadel, and Mana Vault to damage yourself and trigger Darien's ability. Jade Monolith triggers Darien while protecting a creature, especially while attacking in to trigger abilities.

To negate this damage you take, the soul sisters package is included. Healer of the Pride, Soul Warden, Soul's Attendant, and Suture Priest generate life when creatures enter the battlefield, Darien creates creatures when you take damage, meaning that your life doesn't go down unless you're dealt lethal damage. You even gain life if you have any combination that gains more than one life, or Anointed Procession to double token production.

The rest is a lot of synergy and enablers. Ajani's Pridemate, Thalia's Lieutenant, and Selfless Squire can become huge vertical threats to provide an alternative to your wide board of tokens. Angel of Glory's Rise, Emeria, The Sky Ruin, and Marshal's Anthem give you a way to bring things back from your graveyard. Ranger of Eos fetches your soul sisters.

Brave the Elements, Make a Stand, Rootborn Defenses, and Lena, Selfless Champion protect your board at instant speed. Bastion Protector keeps Darien safe. Loyal Unicorn protects your creatures while allowing you to be aggressive. Odric, Master Tactician also allows you to attack safely and can force bad blocks.
