Round 5: Another Trip to the LGS —March 8, 2019

So MtG has taken a back burner in my life. Between many of my friends who play moving away and trying to focus on other hobbies in my life I just haven't been playing as much and as a result have cashed out aside from this deck. Now a few sets have come out since then and I picked up some singles that looked like they could be fun additions.

WHAT'S OUT

Past in Flames I love the new artwork as I said in the last update but I can't think of a single game where it ended up being used. I guess Kess brings a lot of redundancy for this effect.

1 Mountain Upgrading the manabase.

Sunbird's Invocation Great card and will certainly stay in the 'sideboard'. But unless I was playing a big spell it only seemed to work as intended maybe half the time.

Chandra Ablaze I'm not dead set on keeping her out. But she isn't recurable with Kess and her CMC is a tad high for something that isn't a win-con.

Torrential Gearhulk Another good card but aside from Counterspells there isn't anything that is an Instant that I want flashbacked. MIssion Briefing and Snapcaster do the same thing but better for me in this deck.

Grave Upheaval I only ever used this card for the landcycling.

Blatant Thievery Very high CMC that could end the game if copied enough times but it's just being taken out to try some new things. I've never been upset with the results of casting this card but it has just consistently put a big target on my back without taking players out of the game and I have found this deck works best by flying under the radar until I can explode.

WHAT'S IN

Sulfur Falls Upgrading the manabase.

Mission Briefing Snapcaster Mage but arguably better in this deck.

Notion Rain More card draw and beautiful art in my opinion.

The Mirari Conjecture Yeah, as far as competitiveness is concerned this has no business being in here. But the artwork looks so fantastic in foil I just had to try playing with it and assuming it survives two turns then it will lead to a very interesting turn for myself.

Thousand-Year Storm Sunbird Invocation's replacement. I don't know if it will perform better but I think it will lead to more explosive plays assuming it survives a rotation.

Niv-Mizzet, Parun A win con, spot remover, card draw engine, and everyone's favorite dragon wizard to boot.

Liliana's Caress With me using Wheel effects fairly often this should have been in the deck much earlier.
