Karona's Imaginary Friends

Commander / EDH

Imaginary Friends = gods...not superfriends.

I haven't updated this deck since Khans of Tarkir, as I took a break from magic since then. I'm sure there's many more cards that would be great, but I haven't had time to go through the new releases.

WUBRG Theros gods that doesn't run many enablers. The Deus cycle is bad and very mana intensive; they were in the first iteration of the deck but quickly cut. Instead, I focus on playing around the problematic color fixing, mainly by cheating things into play. The plan is that free permanents will enable the gods.

This is accomplished by the following cards: Academy Rector which allows me to find Omniscience/Maelstrom Nexus/Lurking Predators (whichever I think I can get away with that won't get instantly killed, and what stage of the game it is), Wild Evocation, card:Maelstrom Angel, Maelstrom Wanderer, Deadbridge Chant, Etherium-Horn Sorcerer, Defense of the Heart. The only non-permanents I run are card:Empty the Vaults (in case of -X/-X wipes), Primal Surge and Genesis Wave for more free stuff. By no means does Primal Surging result in a win; but typically a Novablast Wurm with a bunch of indestructible gods that have trample (Nylea), menace (Iroas), and vigilance (Heliod), especially with +3/+3 from Karona, do okay. Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't have a clear win-con...

Wait, I got it! Take 2nd place! Or stay alive long enough for the 1v1 and slowly chip away....

The deck is more flavor than good, and isn't even close to competitive level, but actually does pretty well in casual groups. I assume because people ignore the guy with a board full of enchantments. I've yet to have an Aura Thief ruin my day. To help with staying alive, I have a tiny pillowfort going on. Teferi's Moat is usually enough to avoid the aggro player, coupled with Sphere of Safety and aggro players don't even see you. To protect whatever setup, Greater Auramancy and Privileged Position give everything shroud, including each other. Spreading Plague is amazing for making sure you no one else can play too many creatures, and makes token and tribal decks cry. Omen Machine has literally no downside for me, and lets me both stop blue players from drawing decks, as well as allowing me to cheat more stuff.

Fist of Suns and Crystal Quarry say "play any one card for 5 each turn," or "5:remove a permanent" with Legacy Weapon(which is in the deck just because WUBRG). I'm thinking about cutting Legacy Weapon for Agent of Erebos.

I'm not too worried if someone else cheats in a dumb spell. This is my first mainly-permanents deck, so other people's dumb board states can be the WUB player's problem. Plus, it's not like I'm a threat when I'm durdling with a bunch of inactive gods.
