Karona's Angelic Army (DISBANDED)

Commander / EDH

Maybeboard

My Karona, False God Angel Tribal EDH multiplayer focused brew. In this deck, Karona acts as the armchair general that is only used for colors. She will only be used as a finisher when this deck has significant board presence or to close out a game because this deck has no workaround for Karona's drawback.

Themes

Reanimator - Reanimation mitigates the cost of expensive angels by being able to cheat them out in the early to mid game.

Tribal - Angels

Voltron - This deck does not try to be swarmy instead focusing on sending powerful Angels to the sky with equally impactful equipment.

Core Cards

Karmic Guide - A reanimation effect on a body that doubles as an Angel? This card is absolutely bonkers in this deck having synergies across the board such as Nahiri's ult, Angel of Serenity, Volrath's Stronghold.

Maelstrom Archangel - If she was legendary, she would undoubtedly be the Commander of this deck. Even still, she is one of the main reasons to go 5 color if you're planning on building Angel tribal. Unlike Kaalia who can only pull creatures, Maelstrom Archangel can pull out other spells like that Tooth and Nail from your hand for only 2 mana to Entwine.

Monastery Siege - With how limited slots are especially in a 5 color deck, Monastery Siege provides 2 relevant choices depending on the game state. In the early game, this can help hit consistent land drops while dumping your Angels into the graveyard as a repeatable discard outlet. If drawn in the late game, this card can offer pesudo-protection against targeted removal; something this deck lacks due to tight slots.

Nahiri, the Harbinger - Easily the best support card in the deck where all of her abilities ties the major themes of this deck together. She fills the yard to enable reanimation, has conditional but flexible removal, and her ultimate can pull one of the many powerful Angels this deck can offer.

See the Unwritten - In this deck, See the Unwritten is usually more powerful than Tooth and Nail while also being cheaper to cast. Being able to hit Ferocious is not hard at all since most Angels have 4 power anyway. Also dumping the other 6 cards directly into your graveyard is very relevant since this deck thrives on the graveyard.

Notable Omissions

Angel of the Dire Hour - Holding up 7 mana is simply too much to ask for this deck that always wants to spend its mana. Resolute Archangel fits that slot as a soft reset if need be and can be cheated in for the effect.

Archangel of Thune - Limited lifegain, more focused on a swarmy style, and competing in the heavily contested 5 mana slot, Archangel of Thune simply doesn't bring enough to the table to warrant a slot.

Herald of War - Herald may make a reappearance at a later point if some cards fall off, but her cost reduction is too little, too late for a 5 mana Angel.

Restoration Angel - While Archangel Avacyn can get away with being a Serra Angel on steroids that will rarely flip, Resto simply doesn't add much to a nearly all Angel deck despite the decent cost for the body.

Sneak Attack - Early testing found this card to not fit what this deck wants to do. When Angels are brought out, this deck revolves around them staying even if Sneak Attack does not exile them.
