Competitive Play —June 13, 2012

Well, Sunday is the day I play this deck as mean as I can against a playgroup I found while visiting Toronto.

I'll definitely keep ya'll updated!

Why don't you have either Blinkmoth NexusMTG Card: Blinkmoth Nexus nor Inkmoth NexusMTG Card: Inkmoth Nexus?

Plus, Mycosynth LatticeMTG Card: Mycosynth Lattice doesn't help you. It actually hurts you when it comes to All Is DustMTG Card: All Is Dust. No one sacrifices permanents? Plus, it has the possibility of helping them with their mana issues, if they have any. Put MirrorworksMTG Card: Mirrorworks in instead and make doubles of everything... except for Karn. Lol.

Ulamog, the Infinite GyreMTG Card: Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre and Kozilek, Butcher of TruthMTG Card: Kozilek, Butcher of Truth should be in here also.

Someone had up a karn deck a couple of days ago and had Throne of GethMTG Card: Throne of Geth which combos VERY nicely with your Salvaging StationMTG Card: Salvaging Station if you do go that route I would also recommend PentavusMTG Card: Pentavus like modular but also on demand he can break apart and you can use it with the throne for a 1 colorless proliferate.

@Skull_Creed

Thank you for the input! The main reason for not having Blinkmoth Nexus, Inkmoth Nexus, Ulamog and Kozilek is that I do have a budget limit for this deck. (I did fortunately already own a good portion of the deck so I wasn't too worried.)

Also, I'd usually be dropping All Is DustMTG Card: All Is Dust earlier on in the game before fielding Mycosynth LatticeMTG Card: Mycosynth Lattice (which I pretty much use to A: Have Blinkmoth UrnMTG Card: Blinkmoth Urn generate me more mana during my first main-phase and B: To have Karn end up destroying lands around the board.

@Ohthenoises

If I come across a Throne of GethMTG Card: Throne of Geth I'll be sure to put both that and the PentavusMTG Card: Pentavus I had lying around into the deck. Thanks for the input!

I can't imagine how brutal that would be with all of the modular stuff you have.... another thing about pentavus I forgot to mention is if you break him apart your blinkmoth urn will see more artifacts. OH and TriskelavusMTG Card: Triskelavus is very similar except you can't reassemble it but you can deal damage with it.

Annnd finally TriskelionMTG Card: Triskelion hes just mean if you have ways of returning the counters like steel overseer

March 30, 2012 1:33 p.m.

@Ohthenoises

Actually, those two are perfect additions. Is there anything you'd personally suggest taking out for them? I have enough out there to actually pump counters in the deck at the moment so I don't have to worry about that part.

Synod CenturionMTG Card: Synod Centurion seems underwhemling. Might there be reasons for his inclusion?

Also, Flayer HuskMTG Card: Flayer Husk seems underwhelmng as well. I know you can return flayer husk with Salvaging StationMTG Card: Salvaging Station but +1/+1 is nothing in edh.

Ohthenoises says... #8

however the site is showing 98 cards in your deck so maybe you wont have to remove anything after all?

March 31, 2012 1:14 a.m.

@Ohthenoises

Well, Synod CenturionMTG Card: Synod Centurion was gone before I even read the comment. But Flayer HuskMTG Card: Flayer Husk just works with the Salvaging StationMTG Card: Salvaging Station combos: with Blasting StationMTG Card: Blasting Station and Ashnod's AltarMTG Card: Ashnod's Altar just to name two.

I took out Karn LiberatedMTG Card: Karn Liberated because really, he wasn't as effective as I imagined him to be. Unless I'm completely doing it wrong with him.

March 31, 2012 1:18 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #10

in edh (especially if you have proliferate) he becomes spot removal.

March 31, 2012 1:22 a.m.

Thought as much. I actually can already see there's more synergy in just the adding of the Throne of GethMTG Card: Throne of Geth, TriskelionMTG Card: Triskelion and TriskelavusMTG Card: Triskelavus. I guess I'll just have to get into the mindset of ramping up creeps to throw them at the enemy. It's a big change from the Mill/Control deck I'm used to playing.

if you have a way to playtest decks (ala cokatrice) try playing it against deck:drain-all-the-blood-need-help

Ohthenoises says... #14

Be aware. With PentavusMTG Card: Pentavus you can break off a piece of him declare blockers then sacrifice it to merge it back onto him. forgot to mention that little tidbit before.

April 2, 2012 5:44 p.m.

Wait you can do that? So you can get a (1) cost free block without breaking apart PentavusMTG Card: Pentavus? Lovely!

Also, @Ohthenoises, your vampire deck didn't fare to well in two out of three games against Karn only because the land just was NOT coming, also an Etched ChampionMTG Card: Etched Champion with Eldrazi ConscriptionMTG Card: Eldrazi Conscription isn't fun to deal with. But on the one game where the mana pool was fine the vampires wrecked me.

April 2, 2012 5:49 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #16

yea i gotta mess with that mana base.. it doesn't usually give me much trouble IRL but on sites that "shuffle" better than me i get hosed. any thoughts on what i can drop for mana?

April 2, 2012 5:56 p.m.

Personally, if you have the money I'd replace something for a Urborg, Tomb of YawgmothMTG Card: Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. But it's a pretty expensive card and I personally try to steer away from going out and buying them unless the deck can't work without them, in this deck's case that would be Mycosynth LatticeMTG Card: Mycosynth Lattice and Mycosynth GolemMTG Card: Mycosynth Golem which synergize very well. Which just help churn out the deck without a problem, I personally think that without them I wouldn't be able to A: do Karn's land destruction, and B: Blinkmoth UrnMTG Card: Blinkmoth Urn and Mycosynth GolemMTG Card: Mycosynth Golem wouldn't be as efficient.

Ohthenoises says... #18

I broke down and bought it today lol. Also what I like about Mycosynth GolemMTG Card: Mycosynth Golem is consider this: (I know I've been all up on PentavusMTG Card: Pentavus and his counterpart) You have a blightsteel or similar LARGE artifact in hand, at the end of op's turn break apart the two of them. The golem will count each artifact token as another artifact making it so you can "cheat" out bigger creatures.

April 2, 2012 6:10 p.m.

Yup! Same goes with PentavusMTG Card: Pentavus, TriskelavusMTG Card: Triskelavus, Myr PropagatorMTG Card: Myr Propagator and Thopter AssemblyMTG Card: Thopter Assembly breaking apart to vastly buff Darksteel JuggernautMTG Card: Darksteel Juggernaut. It's a great way to cheaply buff him up a good +13/+13 or so in one turn. ALONG with Blinkmoth UrnMTG Card: Blinkmoth Urn and Mycosynth GolemMTG Card: Mycosynth Golem becoming extremely effective because of any of the three.

Also a fun new thing I threw into the deck was Basalt GolemMTG Card: Basalt Golem which, with a Nemesis MaskMTG Card: Nemesis Mask (even if he is indestructible or not) pretty much turns the blocking controller's creatures to 0/2 Stone walls.

April 2, 2012 6:16 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #20

well he's COMPLETELY unblockable if you have out Mycosynth LatticeMTG Card: Mycosynth Lattice (because everything is an artifact and he can't be blocked by artifacts) but if it's not in play? I LOVE that haha.

April 2, 2012 6:20 p.m.

Didn't think about that, but I'd rather have something bigger hitting, but that's what Eldrazi ConscriptionMTG Card: Eldrazi Conscription is for!

April 2, 2012 6:32 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #22

exactly why you don't try to do both at the same time. if you play on and it seemingly has the board on lock then wait till they answer it then play the lattice.

April 2, 2012 6:36 p.m.

Slowassassin says... #23

You could consider equipment?

April 3, 2012 12:27 a.m.

@Slowassassin Suggestions? I really only do have two which I use as equipments, that's the Swiftfoot BootsMTG Card: Swiftfoot Boots and the Nemesis MaskMTG Card: Nemesis Mask. Each serves a definite role in the deck.

April 3, 2012 1:17 a.m.

Slowassassin says... #25

Lightning Greaves are pretty nice. If you have any swords, those work well too. Also, you could consider Whispersilk Cloak. Welding Jar (not an equipment) also looks like it could be a nice addition
