Karmic Punishment (Bloodchief Ascension Control)

Modern* Control Cruel Control Four Color U/B/R (Grixis)

The Winning Condition

This deck progressively harasses the your opponents' life total through Bloodchief Ascension, which is also relatively easy to activate because of the many damaging spells included in the main board and shocklands, which are particularly popular in Modern.

The Other Cards

Countersquall hoses many different strategies. It is particularly effective against planeswalkers.

Crackling Doom is effective against decks with few, big threats. It also bypasses hexproof, Leyline of Sanctity and indestructible.

Esper Charm is very versatile: it is mostly used to refill your hand, but can also serve as a finisher. It deals with Blood Moon and Prismatic Omen, too.

Kolaghan's Command is our only way to deal with artifacts in the main board. It can also recover Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip from the graveyard and occasionally get rid of a small threat.

Muddle the Mixture provides additional protection against disruption an burn and can also tutor for many answers.

Thought Scour helps Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip transform and acts as a much better Soul Feast later in the game.

Collective Brutality is another versatile spell that helps reaching the late game.

Glimpse the Unthinkable offers a chance to instantly end the game. I prefer it to Mindcrank since it does not need an additional card to function and it functions just as well most of the times.

Molten Rain buys time against big mana decks and cleans Celestial Colonnades.

Spite of Mogis scales throughout the game and improves your draws. I prefer it to Magma Jet for the first aspect and because it costs half as much, even if you cannot tutor it with Muddle the Mixture.

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip is the only creature in this deck. I have considered many others, but this one wins in terms of incremental value, versatility and cheapness.

The Sideboard

Disenchant improves many match-ups because of its versatility, and can counter other sideboard cards, such as Leyline of the Void.

Kitchen Finks buys time against big threats and burn.

Kozilek's Return is particularly effective in the affinity match-up. It can be replaced with Flaying Tendrils depending on your local meta.

Lightning Helix is another ace up your sleeve against aggro. It also kills creatures that Kolaghan's Command and Collective Brutality cannot.

Nihil Spellbomb is just a card for graveyard hate. I prefer it to Tormod's Crypt because it can cycle itself, and to Relic of Progenitus because it does not exile your own graveyard.

Spreading Seas is additional hate against Tron and Valakut. I might swap it with Blood Sun: this would probably improve the second match-up at the cost of worsening the first one.
